HomeMy WebLinkAbout1945-0417 REG MIN April 17. 1945 No. 10 The Council met in regular aession at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley. Councilmen Andrews. Daugherty. Merrill. Putman. Redford. Selby. Absent: None The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Monthly reports of the Electric. Street and Water Departments and City Recorder were read. accepted and ordered placed on file. A letter from the Women's Civic Improvement Club concerning the renewal of the lease of the Community Club House was read. As this lease was a 25 year lease which did not expire until August 25. 1946. no action ..s taken at this timeo Committee Reports: Finance: Selby reported that the finance committee had held a meeting at which time the city's finance. "ere studied. and post waB plans discussed~ Real t;y: Andrews reported that he had visited the Ian Prooyen Dairy and that Mr. Van Prooyen had done more than was at first contem.plated and conditions had improved. Andrews also reported that he had met with Mr. Van Curler and discussed the re- nrwa1 of the garbage franchise and that he would reoommend that 1;he contract be renewed for a three year period with the same rates as existed at preaent. It was moved by Putman and seconded by Selby that t:he recommendation be accepted and the oontract be renewed. Carried. Briggs reported that another saw mill and planning mill was looking for a site at the air port property. Arthur Peters for a planning mill and S. J. Daly for a saw mill. _J~. Nelson. representative of the Oregon and California forest administration and two~bers .A lilg ~~^Y6:t;'<'a~:.. wI&6 were present and spoke on the status of the lumbering industry in this section. They reported that the present rate of outting was ideal and should no-t cause any serious difficulties in maintaining adequate lumber reserves. 3.928..000 acres of timberland was under the 0 & C. Forest Administrationfs jurisdiction. Every odd sectio~of land adjacent to the railroad right of way had been given to the railroad. but since they had not complied with the provisions of their agreement. the land had been taken back by the government. An ordinance derining and punishing certain offenses aga~nst the public peace~ safety. morals. and general welfare and repealing 25 old ordi~anoes was read the first time and it was moved by Daugherty and seconded by Redford th8. t the Drdinsnce be passed to the second reading by title only. the rules being suspended. Carried. Following the seoond reading by title. it was moved by Redford and seconded by Putman that the ordinanoe be adopted as read and following a unan~ous roll call. the MAyor deo1ared City Ordinance NO. 1046 adopted. The purpose of the meeting was to hear a protest by Van Curler ooncerning the sale of green leaves from cabbage, lettuce ete by KcGee otthe Boulevarc J!arks-t to Elmer MorrisQn.
