The Council met in regular .assion at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley~
Councilmen Andrews. Daugherty. Merrill. Putman. Redford. Selby. Absent: None.
The minutes of tile previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Monthly report of the City Judge for April was read.. accepted and ordered placed
on fileo
Bills amounting to $10.084.42 were read as to total amount only~ same having been
oked by the var!')UB departments. corruni ttees and finance com:.m. ttee and were ordered paid.
A letter from G. M. Green concerning the Ashland Planning Commission which had been
inactive for a long time was readi and the matter of its revival was referred to the
Ci t--.{ Att~rney for study and recommendation to the Council at the next meeting.
The following applications for building permits were presented:
No. 15: To remodel dwelling at 151 Coolige Street at an approximate cost of
#500.00 by M. R. Magness.
No. 16: To erect 3 room house at 156 Union Street at an approximate cost of
$500.00 by Mrs. Ralph Pu~uan.
No. 17: Ta remodel dwelling at 164 Van Ness Avenue at an approximate cost of
$200.00 by A. R. Mottner.
Noo 13: To remodel church at 777 East Main street at an approximate cost of
$1.400.00 by E. R. Quiok.
It was moved by Daugherty and seoonded by Andrews that the permits be granted.
Carried.
Co~uttee Reports:
Finance: Selby gave a. chalk talk on city finanoes by means of a chart which he had
prepared. making the report more understandable and interesting and setting forth the
present status of city investments. cash balances and funds set up for future projects
and other special useso
Realty: Hospital. The purchase of a new operating table with all the latest devises
and accesseries and costing about $600.00 was approved upon mOtion by Daugherty. seconded
by Selby add carried. Payment to be mde out of the Zana Trust' fund allotment to the
Hospital Department.
Resolutions & Ordinances:
A Resolution requesting the Oregon State Highway Commission to designate the
Pacific Highway. U. S. No. 99" as a superhighway. and as the main route between Portland
and San Franoisco was read by the C1 ty Attorney and it was immediately moved by na.gher-
ty and seoonded by hhby that the rules be suspended and the resolution passed to the
seoond reading by title only. Carried. Following the seoond reading" it was moved by
Redford and seoonded by Putman that the eesolution be adopted as read and following a
unanimous roll call. the Mayor declared the resolution adopted.
The ordinahce extending the garbage franchise of Dewey Van Curler fo r a three year
period dating from April 1st was read and discussed. On account of the advisability of
first inveszigating the present rates charged to business houses. the ordinance's pass~
age was deferred until the next meeting.
An ordinance granting a francjise to the California Pacific Utilities for a ten
year period from March 18th was read the first tim.e. The ordinance calling for a grad..
uated percentage of gross operating revenues from. 1% to 2 %. but with a m;nimum of
.500.00 per year.
Following the approval of the Southern Pacifio Co. to ~ke a out at the corner of
Water and First Stre.ts" the City Superin-tendent was instruoted to make the improvement.
upon motion by Daugherty. seconded by Andrews and carried.
On motion" the Council adjourned to m.eet at the call ot the Mayor.
