The Council met in regular session at 7: 30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley,
Councilmen Andrews, Daugherty, Selby. Absent: Councilmen Merrill, Putman, Redford.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Monthly reports of the Electric, Street, and Water Departments,and City Recorder
were read, aocepted and ordered placed on file.
Selby recommended the purchase of approximately $42.500.00 in Government Bonds
to be made during the 7th War Loan drive from the surpluses in t.l1.e various oity funds.
It was moved by Andrews and seconded by Daugherty that the invesi2n.ents be made. Carried.
Dr. W. Weller spoke for the 4th of July oommittee in securing the use of "C" Street
between First and Pioneer Avenue for the oarnival which was scheduled to show here.
It was moved by Daugherty and seoonded. by Selby that the matter be referred to the
Chief of Police, Ci~Sup't and Ci~ Att'y for investigation. Upon motion by
Selby~ seconded by Daugherty, the lioense fee for the carnival was remitted for the
benefit of the CSamber of Commerce. Carried.
The use of Pioneer Hall in the Park as a home for Ashland Post No. 14 of the
American Legion was presented briefly by the City Attorney and Cammander Emil Kroeger
and Guy .A.pplewhi te of the Post spoke further in favor of it. The matter of using the
present Legion Hall (Pioneer Building) as a meeting place for the Boy Scout ()rgani~a;ions
and other patriotic organizations was disoussed and upon motion by Daugherty seconded
by Selby~ the matter was referred to the Realty Committee for investigation and report.
Carried.
The following applications for building permits were presented:
No. 30: To erect dwelling on Alida street at an approximate cost of $6.000000
by Ray M. Spaulding.
No. 31: To build hen house at II7? Iowa street at an approximate cost of $150.00
by C. C. Boyd.
No. 32: To remodel dwellings at 666 and 697 Indiana Street at an approximate cost
of $700.00 by W. G. Tucker.
No. 33: To remodel house at 440 Helman Street at an approximate cost of $600000
by Pete Schla~lI. .
No. 34: To erect dwelling at 1022 East Main street at an"approximate oost of
$600.00 by Winifred M. Woodley.
No. 35: Remodel dwelling on Holly Street near Harrison at an approximate cost of
$1.000.00 by D. J. Hughes.
No. 36: To erect garage & woodshed at 132 Seventh Street at an approximate cost
of $200.00 by Glen Pnrscot1;.
No. 37: To repaar & ramodel dwelling at 1025 Ashland Street at an approximate oost
of $800.00 by W. E. Moor.
It was moved by Daugherty and seconded by Andrews that the permits be granted.
Carried.
The transfer of deposits in the amount of $161.45 to delinquent accounts and the
transfer of $134.45 in delinquent aocounts to the inaotive aocounts was approved upon
motion by Selby, seconded by Daugherty and carried.

from its present site to the old fire station building on 4th Street upon motion by
Andrews" seoonded by Daugherty and carried. .
The disposal of the refrigerator and other furniture at the Civic Club building
purchased for the U. S. O. was authorized to be made by the City Sup't. with organiza-
tions being given first epporWDiity to buy. Refrigerator to be sold at ceiling price.

The payment of hospital supplies amounting to approximately $1100.00 used
by the lessees er the hospital. not having been received. them.atter was discussed
and payment was referred to the City A:tt'y a:cd City Sup't. to neg'~Ji;ate with an
alloaanoe or discount permitted if neoessary.
The Nate High bill which had been delinquent for several years was authorized
to be adjusted by the payment of .125.00.
Briggs reported that new letters should be printed. to replace those formerly used
in aolici ting for perpe'tual upkeep. sinoe the old one bore the names of former man ber.
ot the Cemetery Commi. ttee. none of whom were now on the Counoil. He stated that the
prospects were very bright for selling additional perpetual upkeep agreements.
Additional oontribution for promotion ef th bill sponsoring- a-tax levy for the
State Building Fund was undeiswritten up to $100.00. but with the provision that the
Committee make every effort to raise the neoessary amount first.
The purchasing of t.l1e watervright of Dwight Patterson on alJout 50 ao:f'es of lam
whioh he contemplated sub-dividing into small aoreages andselling was referred to the
Water Committee for investigation and report.
The Li. thia water shortage was disoussed and referred to the Water Sup't, City
Sup't and City Attorney to investigate.
