The Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. thi s date. Present: Mayor Wiley.
Councilmen Daugherty. Fischborn, Merrill, Nosler~Redford, Weitzel. Absent: None.
The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved as read.
Attorney O. H. Bengston, Medford, representing W. E. Mc~1inn, who had been opposed
to the Bellview annexation, asked for such assurances as the present council could give
concerning ~~. McN~nnfs poultry and hog business, should his property become city property
and come un.der oi ty ordinaneeeo He wa. informed that unless and until soae complaint W8..s
made, he probably need not be urrluly concerned, as the City was reasonable in its enforce-
ment of ordinanoeso
Mr. Balderston, also represented by Mr. Bengston, protested about the piling of
limber wi thin ten leet of his house on Emerick Street. }f~. Edmonds, owner of the lumber
reported his side of the case and the matter ~s referred to the City Attorney.
Mr. Healyt, secretary of the Cpamber of C0mmerce repprted on the plan for all-year
recreation program which was being proposed. He stated that the sumr.uer program called for
a director, which would be AI. Simpson and ~~ lady assistants. Jean Eberhart and Harold
Bishop a~so spoke i~ fav?r of ~t, and proposed a commission of five members to administer
~~s affa~ rs. Follov/lng dlScuss~on. it was moved by Weitzel and seconded by Merrill that

Monthly reports of the Electric, Street and Water Departments and City Recorder
were read, accepted and ordered placed on file.
A letter concerning parking meters was reado
AI Mattson, representing the "Mark Timeu Parking Meter gave a complete demonstration
of this make of parking meter.
The City Sup' t . read bids he had reoei ved for t he Chautauqua stage, which were as
foll,~s: $2406.90, $2645.00 and $2790.00. Auslin and Dodson having submitted the lowest
of the three bids, it was moved 'by RedEord and seoonded by Daugherty that they be gran~
ed the contract for $24060900 Carried unanimously.
The publication of notices of mntention to construct sewers and oil-granite pave-
ments on various streets in the city where this improvement does not at present exist
was authorized, upon motion by Weitzel, seconded by NosIer and carried.
Committee Reports:
Realty: The Mayor stressed the urgent need for permanent improvement in the rest
rooms to make cleaning easier and more lastingo
Fourth of July decorations, including new .American flags and penants was referred
to the City Sup't for purchase upon motion by Daugherty, seconded by Redford and carried.
The City Attorney reported that he had purohased 300 steel chairs for the City at
$1.10 eaoh.
Upon motion by Merrill, seconded by NosIer, the Board of Higher Education's request
for $5,000000 in cash or services(equipment rental) in the construction of the Pear Bowl
was granted. . 0 Carried.
The purchase of a 12 yard hopper for crushed granite oosting about $1.000.00 from
the Oak Street Tank & St~el was authorized upon motion by NosIer, seconded by Weitzel
and carried.
Building permits numbered from 77 to 84 inclusive were approved upon motion by ~isch-
born, seoonded by Redfmrd and carried. Total of permits, $15,200.00
Endorsement of beer licenses for O. L. Fox and W. P. & W. B. Hamby(fo~~erly Nininger-
's Drive In Market) were granted.
