REPORT TO. THE caMMaN Co.UNCIL
by
ASHLAND PLANNING caMMISSION
At the meeting of the Planning COlllIl'lission held on the lath day
of May, 1956, the Commission unanimously agreed to recommend to
the Council that the minimum water charge be increased by one
dollar per month, the additional revenue to be set aside for
future water development. This action was deemed advisable for
the following reasons:
1. Present water supplies are rapidly being exhausted
by additional growth and new connections both within
the city and in contiguous areas.
2. There is no indication that the rate of growth will
diminish in the foreseeable future and contiguous
areas are exerting pressure for annexation.
3. Creation of a reserve out of income for development
of enlarged water sources will effect a considerable
savings in cost to the city by eliminating interest
charges on a bond issue. If the 1'1md thus created
is insufficient to meet the cost of an approved
project and a bond issue is required, the cost to
the taxpayers will have been greatly reduced.
4. With a definite program, the water department can
begin to make orderly plans to develop new water
sources.
At the meeting of the Planning Commission held on the 21st
day of May, 1956, the Commission unanimously passed a motion
requesting that a formal hearing be set to determine the
advisability of changing and amending the zoning ordinance
to provide for a maximum. of 5, coo. square feet for professional
buildings in residential districts and to provide that all
plans and specifications far such buildings be submitted first
to the ~lanning Commission to determine that such buildings
will maintain esthetic conformance with surrounding properties.
The Planning Connnission hearing on the proposed changes to
be held on Monday, May 28, 1956, at 7:30. P.M.
