The council ~et in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date.
Present: Mayor W~ley. Councilmen Applewhite. Blake. Gregg. Hansen.
Ingle, Wenner. Absent: None.
Minutes of the previous meetings were read and accepted as read.
Dr. E. A. Woods representing the Hospital Board s~8~s on the heat-
ing ~ystem at ~he ~ospital. stating that it was costing/to heat the
hosp~tal than ~t d~d to heat the Lithia Springs Hotel. Miss Losher.Sup't
~f t~e Hospital also spoke about the trouble ,they were having with the
heat~ng.system. Followi~g considerable discussion. it was moved by
Applewh~te that the Cha~rman of the Hospital Committee be authorized to
~ave the pipes insulated and an accelerating pump put on the water line
~f necessary.
Monthly reports of the Water Dep't. City Recorder and City Treas-
urer were read. acc~pted and ordered placed on file.
Applewhite spoke on the purchase of a tractor for the street Dep't.
He also spoke on the dangerous conditions existing on the lower part of
Gran~te Street where an old building had been removed. leaving a very
dangerous place where there was a drop of 20 to 30 feet which was un-
protected. Applewhite was excused at this point and left the meeting.
A bill for Frank Van Dyke for legal services on the Cates vs the
City case for $100.00 was read. Moved by Wenner that the bill be allow-
ed. Seconded by Blake. Roll call was ordered, the vote being Ayes 6. Nays
O. Carried. Bills from the League of Oregon Cities for annual dues $35.00
and legistative assessment$LOO.OO for 1935 were read. Moved by Wenner
that the bills be .allowed. seconded by Blake. Rmll call was ordered. the
vote being Ayes 5. Nays O. Carried .
A letter from G. M. Frost suggesting that the City give perpetual
upkeep agreements to the Root and Mickelson lots in recognition and appre-
ciation of ~h~ bequests they made to our city was read but no action taken.
. A letter from G. M. Greeg of the Ashland Tidings requesting that the
City pass a resolution favoring the paving by the State Highway Department
of that portion of the highway from the Normal School to the Neil Creek
School was read. but since word had already been received from the Depart-
ment relative to this paving, no further action was taken.
A petition from property owners on Skidmore Street requesting that
the City institute vacation proceedings for vacation of 17 feet on south-
east side of Lot 2. BloQ~ 16. oroginal plat of the town was read. Moved
by Wenner that the petition be approved and Jan. 29th be set for the hear-
ing on the vacation proceedings. Seconded and carried.
The continued delay in completing the system by Lybrahd. Ross Bros
and Montgomery was discussed. In view of the fact that several members of ,
the City administration were going to atte~d the meet~n~ of the L~ague of
lregon Cities at Salem. it was thought adv~sable to v~s~t the Aud~tors
-iiuring this trip. Moved by Ingle that the W~yor, City Attorney and others
whommay attend the Lea~ue of Oregon Cities meeting at Salem contact the
firm of Lybrand, Ross Bros, & Montgomery and advise them that their cont-
ract had not been fulfilled and that the position of the City of Ashland
was that it was not bound by the contract.
In keeping with the recommendations of the auditors. it was moved py
Wenner that the City Treasurer have a deputy appointed to colle~t mone~
during the time the Assistant Recmrder is off duty. Seconded anQ carr~ed.

A letter signed by four residents and neighbors of E. E. Heatg
stating that he was absent from his residence from about Oct. 28th
until Dec.5th was read. Moved by Wenner that the charge for water for
this period be cancelled. Seconded by Hansen. Carried.
The placing of $1000 in Talent Irrigation Bonds belonging to the
City of Ashland was discussed. Moved by Eenner that the bonds be de-
posited in escrow in the First National Bank for collection. Seconded
lby Blake. Carried.
The City Attorney stated that he and Mr. Applewhite had secured
option agreements from property ovmers along the right-away of the new
road. Long and Bogi having signed agreements and Loftus offering a
right-away for $100.00.
Real Estate: Hansen stated that he had received an offer for
a piece of city property near Water Street from the Southern Oregon Gas
Co. No action was taken.
The City Attorney stated that he had written a letter to Will
Holmes relative to the Holmes Grocery BUilding and its bad condition.
On motion, the council adjourned to meet at the call of the Y~yor, same
having been decided upon to be Jan. 29. 1935.
