The Council met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. this date.
Present: I~yor WileT, Councilmen Daugherty, Fischborn, Merrill,
NosIer and Redford. Absent: Councilman Weitzel.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as
re ad .
The monthly reports of the City Recorder and the Electric
Department were read, aceepted and ordered placed on file.
The hour having arrived, for hearing on the proposed zonlng
ordinance the letter from the Zoning Commission recommending the
proposed zoning of Hwys 66 & 99 was read and also a petition signed
by 20 residents of Hwy. 99, who were opposed to having this zoning
as a business area go into effect. J. F. Jeter spoke representing the
petitioners, and others on the ordinance were called to express their
opinions. Mr. McMinn stated he was in favor of the petition against
this proposed zoning. Several other speakers voiced their opinions;
some for, some against. Mr. Foster of Bellview favored the zoning as
recommended. Lottie Beswick and Sarah Beswick both spoke against the
proposed zoning_
Monthly reports of the street and Water Departments were also
read, accepted and ordered placed on file.
E. R. Hosler, City Water ~uperintendent, reported on the cleaning
of Reeder Dam and the aifficulties entailed.
Fischborn suggested a committee consisting of one member from
nine service clubs and the Water ~uperintendent go up and view
Reeder Dam. and suggested ::laturday afternoon, February 20 as t he time.
The report of Judge C. ~. Talent was read, accepted and ordered
placed on file.
The City Superintendent reported tr~t a party living on ~outh
pioneer A~enue required a 5 foot strip vacated for the purpose of
erecting a garage. ~t was moved by Redford and seconded by Daugherty
-that the strip be vacated. Carried.
The widening of Nevada Street and drainage of land in that
vicinity was discussed. It was moved by NosIer and seconded by Redford
that the City Arrorney negotiate for acquisition of property along
Nevada Street and Laurel Street extension for street purposes.

Rea~y: Redford reported that the cemetery grounds had been
secured.
In connection with the hospital, he stated that the committee
recommended the, lease shou.ld remain as it is.
He also recommended that the city property which the National
Guard wanted to obt&~n across from the Poultry House on Ashl~d
Creek, be leased to the state of Oregon for a term of years. A motion
was made by Fischborn and seconded by Merrill that the lease be drawn.
Carried.

An ordinance providing for special obligation notes for the
purpose of purchasing the Axel tract for the cemetery was read by the
City Attorney. It was moved by Fischborn, seconded by Merrill that th
rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second reading
by. title only. Carriea. Following the second reading, it was moved
by Redford and seconded by Daugherty that the ordinance be adopted as
read. Following a unanimous roll call the Mayor declared City urdinam
fll070 adopted.
The City Attorney read an ordinance vacating a certain alleyway
lying immediately North of Lot Four, and Lots Six to Eight. inclusive~
of Block Three, Original Town of Ashland, Jackson.County, uregon.
lt was moved by Fischborn and seconded by Redford that the rules be
suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second reading by title
only. Carried. After the second reading, it was moved by Fischborn
and seconded by Merrill the ordinance be adopted as read. Following
unanimous roll call the Meyor declared City Ordinance #1071 adopted.
An ordinance was read changing the name of.stock, ~tanley
and vberlin ~treets and that portion of Willow Street South of the
Couthern pacific Railroad right of way, to Hersey Streeto lt was
moved by Merrill and seconded by Redford that the rules be suupended
and the ordinance be passed to the second reading by tltle only.
Carrled. Following the second reading, it was moved by Redford,
seconded by Fischborn that the ordinance be adopted as read. Follow-
ing a unanimous roll call the WlSyor declB red City urdinance rl072
adopted.
A deed vacating property for street purnoses in the Carter Heights
Addition signed by Robt. E. Dodge and wife and C. ~. Corry and wlfe w~
re~d. It was moved by Redford and seconded by Merrill the deed by
accepted. Carried.
it was decided that the City Council would meet with the ~lanning
Commission at their next meeting on February 24, in connection with
the proposed zoning ordinance.
Building permits numbered 15 to 20 inclusive, totalling $13,700
were read, approved and ordered placed on file.
A petition bearing a large number of signatures in connection
with the building of a sawmill in addition to the planing mill
already constructed was submitted by O. C. Gragg. A letter requesting
no action be taken on the petition at present, but that it be placed
on file, was read.
A letter from Van Dyke & L0mba~ calling the attention of the
Council to the inadequacy of the present conduit installed for the
extension of "B" ~treet, was read by the City Attorney.
