North Mountain Park Nature Center, Ashland Parks and Recreation Department Training Program and Preparation: • Up to 6 hours of training will be paid for participation in the training on 4/11/2012. • Up to 6 additional training hours will be paid for supervising practice teaching sessions between 4/16 and 4/26. • Up to 15 hours of materials preparation will be paid between 4/6 and 6/1. Teaching Information: Teach each Friday morning and afternoon throughout the Field Season as programs are booked (not including May 4 and June 1). • Learn a minimum of one lesson that you will teach consistently (with the option of learning 3) • Learn, practice, and present the program's Intro and wrap-up. • Be familiar with all of the equipment for the "youngers" program and assist volunteers in set up. • Notify the park staff at least 24 hours in advance of missing a work day and find a sub to fill your teaching spot. AM Teaching Schedule: 8:30 Haul out all "youngers"equipment; set up your station,check in with other instructors 9:00 Greet the teacher/class, check on the timing, adjust time cards if needed 9:15 Organize students on benches,ask adult helpers to meet with instructors; present the Intro 9:25 Move groups out for their 1"rotation and begin teaching 10:00 Help supervise Snack Break 10:15 Teach 2nd and 3`d rotations 11:25 Present the Wrap-up to entire class; Set parameters for lunch if the am class is staying PAM Teaching Schedule: 12:00 Check and organize your station and check in with other instructors 12:10 Greet the teacher/class, check on the timing, adjust time cards if needed and present the intro 12:15 Organize students on benches,ask adult helpers to meet with instructors; present the Intro 12:25 Move groups out for their 1"rotation and begin teaching 2:10 Return to the pavilion and present the wrap-up to entire class Requirements: • Prior teaching experience with school-aged children (K-2'd), preferably at NMP. • An interest in, or knowledge of, the subject matter— Water of the Rogue Valley. • Able to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather. • Able to work as a member of our "team" — interact positively with staff, support volunteer instructors. • Be familiar with the goals & mission of the NMP Nature Center and the Ashland Parks Department. • Able to prevent and/or resolve student disagreements as well as health and safety issues.
