HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-34 Downtown Historic Dist.A RESOLUTION TO FORWARD THE NOMINATION OF THE ASHLAND DOWNTOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT TO THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES TO THE STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE. RECITALS: A. The Historic Commission has unanimously recommended approval of the Ashland Downtown Historic District to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. B. The listing of the Downtown Historic District complies with Ashland Comprehensive Plan policy I-5, which states: "The Historic Commission shall seek the official designation of important historic buildings and districts by national, state and local organizations. The Commission shall assist the Planning Staff and Planning Commission in exercising appropriate controls on the external appearance and disposition of such buildings and districts." The City of Ashland resolves as follows: SECTION 1. That the nomination to place the Ashland Downtown Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places be forwarded to the State Historic Preservation Office. The Ashland City Council heartily recommends that the Ashland Downtown Historic District be placed on the National Register of Historic Places to ensure that this important Ashland commercial area is recognized for its importance to Ashland's past, and for it's contributions to our future. The foregoing resolution was READ and DULY ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Ashland on the 16th day of June 1999.
