An ordinance providing for a special
election of the electors of the city of

of water rights, or real estate on Ash- land Creek for benefit of same.

'LAND do ORDAIN as follows: ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' Section 1. That at a special election ,
of the legal voters of the City of Aah-
land, Jackson County, Oregon, to be , held as hereinafter specified, the fol-
lowing proposition shall be and is
hereby submitted to be voted upon by the qualified electors of the said city

• PROPOSITION
-he °st ~ Shall the Common Connoil of the r City of Ashland in Jackson County,
State of Oregon, for the purpose of strengthening and improving its water
ayatem by the purchase of water rig ts, or real estate on Ashland Creek for
n~' the s~ benefit of same, issue the .negotiable
bonds of the said City to the amount plenve, in the aggregate of ($30, 000.00,) Thirty
Thousand dollars, or so much thereof
as may be required. The said bonds to be dated on the 1st day of July A.

Hundred dollars each, with interest coupons attached thereto, payable to
g~•i~j~c~~ the purchaser or bearer thereof, fifteen
~ years after their date. The principal thereof bearing interest after date at
the rate of 4~ per cent per annum
payable semi-annually; and shall the ' ~i Common Council of the said city of
Ashland borrow money on Such bonds by selling or disposing of the same as
the council may provide and appropri- ~
ate the proceeds thereof and expend the same in purchase of valid water
rights, etc., now owned by other par-
ties and which said water right3 are needed to reinforce the water ayatem
of the said city?
Sec. 2. A special election of the qualified electors of the said City of
Ashland is hereby called and appoint- ed to be held on loth day of June,
1905, at the usual voting places where ~
the elections of the said city are held, ' for the purpose of voting on the fore '
going proposition. ~
Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the ~ City Recorder and he is hereby requir-
ed to prepare and pQat in at least three ~
public places in the City of Ashland ~ notices of said election stating the '
date, the hour when said election shall ~ open and the 'hour when the polls
thereof shall close and stating briefly
the purpose of the said election at least ' ten days before the date thereof.
The said City Recorder shall also 1
came ballots to be prepared under the t provisions of the general law of the 1
state of Oregon, which ballots shall e
have printed upon them the words l "for bonds for the pnrchaae of
water rights", and upon a separate
line the words "against bonds for the pnrchaae of water rights;" the said ~
two lines designating the will of the
voter to have placed before them the figure "1" for the first and the flg-
ure "2" for the second, with space sufficient for the voter to make a cross '
leetween the number and the line in- '
dicating said voter's wish. If a ma- jority of the legal voter3 of the said
City of Ashland at such election shall
vote for the issuance of said bonds, then this proposition shall be deemed
and considered as adopted and the
Common Council of said City shall i proceed in accordance therewith. If '
a majority of the legal voters of said t
city shall vote against the issuance of said bonds, then said bonds shall not
be issued under the said election. e Sec. 4. This ordinance shall be r
published in at least one of the news- I
papers of general circulation published ~ in the said City of Aah Land on each o
date of said paper's publication be-
tween the day of adopting this ordi- t nance and approving the same and a
the day upon which said election a

effect and be in force from
