Present TE~~yor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner. Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Tayler, j~1en:~er; absent none. I~Iinutes of the presvoud meeting v~rere read and approved as read. Reports of the Street. Commissioner and Supt of the Electric Department and. Librarian E ,r~. for the month of July, 1930, wereread and on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to 6.73, were presented. IYlotion was made and secondea that said bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn in payment thereof. Carried. Petition From the Young Den's Zaw ~fordement League asking for the removal of Chief of Police Clause, tiaras referred to the Committee on Police Department. The follotir~ing building permits tiF~ere granted: No. 112 F:D.Yarbrough- l~o erect a barn X225.00 113 H. A. ti~'~yatt, to erect a dwelling for C.A.Hai nes 9200.00 114 J.~~.l~~IcCoy, to erect garage and storage building 500.00 115 H. A. Aikins, to remodel home 250.00 :a~ IIoved by ~?ersey secondeu by Claycomb that ~;~J. F. ~ubbart be granted a permit to erect a barn at I~~o. 199 Emerick Avenue. Carried. The application! of ~~'1. S. Smith for a permit ti~Tas held up. ~ F: i:Ioved by Claycomb seconded by Tayler that the application of the Texaco Co. for ermission to erect a station on the Boulevard be refused unless the drive is located p off the street. Carried. F; The matter of securing a spur for the loading of logs was referred to Councilman Claycomb for action. Moved by Claycomb seconded by Bergner that the City Attorney ask ~~r, Gates to give the City servmces of the Engineer for paving information, also that prices be secured from the Standard Oil Co. on heated 90~ asphalt oil. Carried. Ias. Shell addressed the council and asked that the street at the corner of Strawberry Lane and Granite be improved. The request of T~~s. Hylton that her assessment on I,~Iorton Street be segregated was referred to the City Attorney. A representative of the Shell Oil Co. duscussed road. oils and. a general discussion followed. The hour of 8 o'clock P.r~,~. having arrived the council proceeded to open the bids submitted for furnishing and installing an oil burner for the hospital. ~ ~ The follotiving bias were received: Arthur Schmidli- Medford, Oregon x;775.00 Provost Bros. 675.00 T. H. Simpson 698.00 reoples Electric Store 750.00 The i!~ayor stated that a bid submitted by l,s. H.O.i~rohbaci~~ had been.: left at ~~,~Zedford by one of the Councilmen. All the bidders present waiving objections was moved by Claycomb seconded by ~la`Tler that the bids be referred to the Hospital Committee for investigation and recommenaations, including the bid at i~iedford, ti; ' Carried. 'i~he ~~~~~r or stated that ovaing to the fact that no specific charges had been filed against the Chief of Police by the Young ~~~~en's Latin Enforcement League, and that the Committee had asked the members of the League to meet vaith them on tv~ro different occasions, which the League had failed to dog the Committee recommend that the petition be laid on the table indefinitely.. T~~oved by Blake seconded by Bergner ~ that the petition be laid on the table indefinitely as recoi~nended. Carried. iy~r. ~fidauchope asked that he be granted authority to purchase a carload of poles. ~~oved by Tayler seconde:~ by Hersey that the request be granted. Carried unanimously. The Fire Chief made a verbal report regarding the matter of better fire pro- tection at the ~'~oon ~2i11. It ti~ras moved by Tayler seconded by C~.aycomb that the r. report of the Fire Chief be accepted and a standard coupling be put on the fire stand as recommended. Carried. ~ 1+~ F f h ~;~s. ~t~.ttie Holmes addressed the council protesting against the building of a barn by dir. Yarbrough. This matter was referred to the Sanitary Committee. E~ Councilmen Claycomb and Engineer Walker submitted reports on the probable cost F~ ,r~ of paving ~~+inburn ~'~~ay. Per. Amort also addressed the council regarding theuse of Cooas for the park Road pavement. On motion of Bergner seconded by Blake the City Engineer was authorized to pro- r r°eed with the paving of t'dinburn ~~tay at the earliest possible date, along the lines $ su~~ested in his report. The vote on the motion eras as folloUrs : Ayes Bergner, Blake, fir. Claycomb, Hersey, Tayler; nays none. Carried. l.~Zoved by Bergner seconded by Blake that the Engineer be authorized to use any darn kind of rock he desires. Carried. ,j, ~~Zoved by Bergner seconded by Claycomb that the best grade of Colas be used for this job, provided the proper spray nozzle can be obtained.
