R Present Councilmen Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Tayler: PJenner; absent S~Iayor Thornton; r, Councilmen Hersey. The council discussed the matter of a settlement with the Wustin-Western Road li~achinery Co. It was moved by Bergner seconded by Wenner that if a settlement can be made Councilman Claycomb be authorized to pay half of the expense of shipping the g_,# grader back to Portland. Mr. Walling of the Company was present and stated that the Company would be r satisfied with this settlement. He agreed to return the City's contract. Present l~~ayor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Tayler, ti~~enner; absent none . ;gin, { ~~Iinutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Report of J. T~7. ~"~auchope for the month of June, 1931, was read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills o.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to X10,296.49, were read in total ~ Motion was made and seconded that said bills be alloyed and warrants amount only. r,x ordered dratixm in payment thereof . The vo-te was as follows : Ayes Bergner, Blake, Clay- cob, Hersey, Tayler, Wenner; nays none. Carried. The following bids were submitted for re-roofing the power house: 0. B. Turner 225.00 ~ ~ 224.75 Ashland Lumber Co. m Carson-Fowler Lumber Co. 223.20 ~ i~,oved by Blake seconded by Tayler that the =matter of a~==~.arding the contract be left to the Electric Light Committee ~~aith power to act. Carried. 1VIr. ti~lauchope brought up the matter of taking out insurance on the power house. The I~~ayor re--erred this matter to the Elec~ric Light Commit~;ee for investigation. T:~oved b Wenner seconded by her. Wauchope presented bids on a carload of poles. y Claycomb that the Electric Light Bepartment be authorized to purchase a carload of poles. Carried unanimously. ~s. Hosler asked that the council fix a water rate for operating gas refrigerators and water po~~~er washing machines. On motion of Bergner seconded by Tayler, this matter was referred to the ti~Jater Committee for recommendations. Engineer ti'~alker submitted an estimate of the cost of cutting off the corner at the Library on Gresham Strut. Moved by Claycomb seconded by Blake that the City Engineer be instructed to proceed with the work according to the plans and specifications presented. Carried unanimously. Geo. Riley asked that a portion of Nutley Street be paved. He was instructed to circulate a petition asking for the improvement and to present the petition to the council. on motion of Bergner seconded b y Tayler, After a lengthy discussion of the electric light situation the electric light committee was instructed to make further investigation as to the advisibility of install- ing a Deisel Engine Plant, and to report to the council at an early date.
