Present Mayor 4~iley; ~ Councilmen Appleti°~hite, Bergner, Blake, Gregg, Tayler, `~`denner; absent none. a x The purpose of the meeting was announced as the adoption of the salary ordinance for ' the period ending December 31, 1934. After some d1sL'ussion the proposed ordinance was read. Having been read the f~.rst time, it was moved by Blake that the rules je suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second reading by title only, seconded by Bergner, carried. Having been read the second time, it was moved by ~tenner that the ordinance be adopted as read, seconded by Bergner. Roll call was ordered on its adoption, the vote being Ayes 6, Trays 0. Thereupon, the ~rZayor declared City Ordinance Teo. 931 adopted. The collection: of licenses from variousbusinesses as required by City Ordinances and the free list ~vere discussed, but no action taken. The minutes of the previous meetings were re .d ari. approved a~> read. ~iont~iiy reports for June of the Street, l'dater and Light Departments and the Recorder were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. The report of the Recorder showing over X30,000.00 in cash on hand brought out the suggestion that the City Treasurer be author- . ized to purchase x'30,000.00 in bonds. The recor~irrendation was mane by Bergner of the Fin- ance Com~littee, but no motion vas thoug~lt necessary and none made. I~Ir. Bowmen of the Southern Oregon T~~ormal achool spoke on tie possibility of converting the old Chautauqua Building into an Elizabethian ~'heatre and showed plans. He stated the estimated cost of material waU about X4800.00. The labor could be supplied thru the S. E. R. A. ~ A communication from t~~~e atate ~~ighway Commission concerning t11e prospect of securing funds for the proposea tividenng of the Boulevard near tree T~ormal School was read. a Application of G. Frost for his annual vacation was read. Moved by :Make that same be granted su~a ject to approval of the Cemeter`,~ Corlcnittee. Seconded by Applewhite, carried. Application for Building Permit Igo. 6 to rer~odel the cleaning room of the Standard Cleaners at 95 Oak atreet at a cost of X250.00 was submitted by F. F. ~~hittle. ~~oved by Blake that the per~lit be granted. Seconded and carried. A bill from G. T. Applewhite for gas ana oil used in connection with his duties at the ' S. E. R. A. project on the High School athletic field for X32.95 was upon motion by Bergner, seconded anti allot~ved. Hosier stated that Louis Jodge had reque>~;ed water for tree Golf Club from the City. 1GToved by Blare that the Natter ~e ref`erred to the ~7ater Com;~ittee for investigation and re- port ~oaek. Seconded b.y ~pplewhite, carried. The City Attorney spo'~e on the result of his investigation of the collection of business licenses. He stated that ~;iedford a~zd I~.amath Falls were enforcing their licenses. The subject of bringing t'rre City flat books up to date wa also discussed ant; same referred to the City Attorney for recor~mendation. The granting of free ~.ig~lt, water and wood. for use oi' tree relief' comr:~ittee in canning at tie Armory was brought up. ~~oved by Apple~~hite ~;~at the request be granted. Secondeu by 'I Blake, carried. 4n account of using only one for whic~l he paid X1.00, the penalty against T, J. Meade, 276 Van Tess Avenue was remitted on motion by Jlai~e, seeorlded by Applewhite,  E. T. Staples was present and stated that he would like to bid on the fleet insurance this year. Moved by 3erb-ner that Mr. Staples be given the opportunity to bis on the fleet insurance which expires August 16th, 1934. Seconded and carried.
