Present r~ayor ~"tiley; Gouncilmen Applew~ite, Gregg, Tayler, ~~~tenner; absent Gouncilmen Bergner, Blake. Irlinutes of the previous meetings were read and approved as read. Monthly report of the Dump Ground for August was read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to 7119.G0 were read as to total amount only, same having been OK'ed by the .Finance Committee. ~~aved by Tayler thrt the bills be slowed. Seconded and carried. Building Permits Tuo. 8 to erect a chicken house at 295 Helman Street at an approximate cost of X500.00 submit etc ~y G. S. Jacobs and ~~o. 9 to Re-roof a house at 696 Boulevard at an approximate cost of X200.00 submitted by Sa~nyder were approved. letter from G. ~u. Green of the ashland Tidings relative to a Gooking School at the Lithia Theatre, October 3, 4, and 5th and asr.ing that the City buy X50.00 in advertising, was upon motion by '~`denner, seconded by Tayler referred to the Light Committee for report. Garried. Application of B. B. Phelps, 38r~ B Street for free lights and water was referred to the Light and ~~Jater superintendents for investigation and report. George L. Clark, 253 Third Street was granted free lights and water to January 1, 1935 upon motion by Gregg, seconded by Tayler. Garried. r ~ Cemetery: Rates of pay for common labor eras brought up. i~ovea by ~~~enner that the rate of pay far common labor in cemeteries be the same as common labor in other departments. Ashland, Oregon September 15, 1934 The Council met in special session at 7:30 P. this date. Present Mayor ~'~iley; Gouncilmen Applewhite, 3ergner, Blake, Gregg, Tayler, 1~Jenner; absent none. The purpose of the meeting was to consider the recommendations made by the auditors, Lybrand., Ross Bros. ~ ~iontgor:ery, as contained in their letter to the ~:~ayor and Common Council dated iua~ust 18, 1934. The first major recommendation was to have the recording duties handled entirely separate and independent from the duties of handling; funds. .All collections to be handl- ed by the Treasurer. After sortie discussion, it lywas moved by "~~enner that the recommendat- ions of the auditors to have the treasurer collect all mone~r be adopted, Seconded by Gregg, carried. The second major recommer~da,tion was to have the 'dater and Blectric Light departments combined in order to effect r~any economies that would. result from merging; of these two departments. There was some discussion, follo~~ing ~r~~ich, it was moved by Y"~enner that the recommendations of the auditors concerr~ing tl~le combining of the Light and eater Depart- menu under one Head be adopted. seconded by Blake, carried. The third major reeorr~r:~endation was to Have the City of Ashland purchase an accounting machine for saving ~f time and a better c~htrol of tree light and. ~aater revenues. loved by ~~renner that the auditors recommendation ~~r the ~nl~rr~hase of an aeeountin~ machine be  adopted. Seconded by Blake, carried. Following this, twenty seven (27) specific recommendations were read from the letter of August 18th and approved, but no formal action of approval made. The necessary details and changes necessary to be made in existin-; ordinances to be taken up at a future date. Mention was made of the discovery of a little gold near Auburn Street. Moved by Bergner that the Street Committee investigate the gold mine on Auburn Street. Seconded. f ~ x f and carried. ~.F. Denny, 160 Sixth Street had always paid his bills but nor he had been out of wore for a long time and unable to pay then, but would be placed on the pensio~r list o~' the Southern ~:'acific on February 1, 1935 and vaauld then be able to ~ pay. Moved by Blanc that I~lr. Denny be placed on the free list for lights and water to E: January 1, 1935. Seconded and carried. The penalty against crank 1'ieree, 225 B Street for the month of ~~u.ust was remitted upon rlotioli by Tayler, Sec~ndes. by Gregg. &r. Pierce did not receive his pension due to no fault of leis own. uY, The Gity attorney reported on his investigation of the Jules F. Cole mortgage. ,i The application of ~Ir.
