Ashland, Oregon, Jan. 15, 1935 No. 2
The council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Kiley,
Councilmen Applewhite, Blake, Gregg, Hansen, Ingle, Wenner.- Absent: None
The minutes of thepreviaus meetings were read and approved as read.
Dr. E. A. Woods representing the Hospital Board spoke on the heating system at the
Hospital, stating that it was costing more to heat the Hospital than it did to heat the
Lithia Springs Hotel. Miss Lusher, Superintendent of the Hospital also spoke about the r
trouble they were having with the heating system. Following considerable discus ion, it was moved by Applewhite that the Chairman of the Hospital Committee
be authorized to have
the pipes insulated and an accelerating pump put on the water line if necessary.
Monthly reports of the Water Department, City Recorder and City Treasurer were read,
accepted and ordered placed vn file.
Applewhite spoke on the- purchase of a tractor for the Street Department. He also spoke
an the dangerous condition ezisting on the lower part of Granitr Street where an old build- ing had been removed, leaving a very dangerous place where
there was a drop of ~ to 30 ft,
which was unprotected. Applewhite was excused at this point and left the meeting.
A bill from Frank Van Dyke for legal services an the Cates vs the City of Ashland ease
for X100.00 was read. Moved by Wenner that the bill be allowed. Seconded by Blake. Roll call
was ordered, the vote being, Ayes 5, Nays 0. Carried. Bills from tt~e League of Oregon
Cities for annual,duss X35.00 and legislative assessment X100.00 for 1935 were read. Moved by Wenner that the bills be allowed, seconded by Blake. Roll
call was ordered, the vote
being Ayes 5, Nays 0. Carried.

A letter from G. M. Frost suggesting that the City give perpetual upkeep agreements
to the Root and Nickelson lots in recognition and appreciation of the bequests they made
to our pity was read, but no ~ctian taken.
A letter from G. M. Green of the Ashland Tidings requesting that the City pass a res- r
olutivn favoring the paving by the State Highway Department of that portion of the highway
from the Normal School to the Neil Creek School was read, but since word had already been
received from the Department relative to this paving, no further action Was taken.
A petition from property owners on Skidmore Street requesting that the City institute
vaoatian proceedings for the vacation of 17 feet an ,the southeast side of let 2, Blosk 16,
original plat of the town was read. Moved by Kenner that the petition be approved and den. 29th be set for the hearing on the vacation proceedings.
Seconded and carried.
The continued delay in completing the ~Qcounting system by Lybrand, Rvss Bros. and
Montgomery was discussed. In view of the fact that several members of the city aaministra-
tian were going to attend the meeting of the League of Oregon Cities at Salem, it was
thought advisable to visit the Auditors during this trip. Loved by Ingle that the Mayor, s t City Attorney and others who may attend the League
of Oregon Cities meeting at Salem con-

not been f~zlfilled and that the position of the City of Ashland was that it was not bound
by the contract.
In keeping with the recommendations of the am~ditors, it was moved by Kenner that the
City Treasurer have a deputy appointed to collect money during the time the Assistant Re-
corder was off' duty. Seconded and carried.
A latter signed by four residents and neighbors of E. E. Heath stating that he was
absent from his residence from about Oct. 28 until Decl 5th was read. Moved by Kenner that
the charge for water for this period be cancelled. Seconded by Hansen. Carried. 5
The placing of X1000.00 in Talent Irrigation Bonds belonging to the City o! Ashland
was discussed. Moved by Kenner that the bonds be deposited in escrow in the First National Bank for collection. Seconded by Blake. Carried.
The City Attorney stated that he and Mr. Applewhite had scoured optson agreements from
property owners along the right-away of the new road. Long and Bogi having signed agreeme~s
and Loftus offering a right-away for X100.00.
Real Estate: Hansen stated that he had redeived~~ah:~bff'er fora piece of city property
near '~'a~er~reet from the Southern Oregon Gas Company. No action was taken.
The City Attorney stated that he had written a letter tv Will Holmee relative to the
Holmes Grocery Building and its bad eonditian.
On motion, the council ad~vurned to meet at the call of the Mayor, same having been
decided to be den. 29, 1935.
