Moved by Hansen, seconded by Applewhite that permission to place the pheasant pens at the air port be granted. Seconded by Blake. Carried. The t~.ayor stated that a Highway Meeting was being held at Portland. ~~oved by Nh~ 1 Applewhite that the Mayor and City Attorney attend this meeting an Feb. 2$th. Seconded and carried. Caggins addressed the council on purchasing more timber land from the City. Moved by Applewhite that the matter be referred to the 6~ater Committee to investigate and report. Monthly reports of the Recorder, Dump Cxround Superintendent and City Judge ~~~tere read, accepted ~:nd ordered placed on file. A petition from Mrs. Caroline Schuerman requesting permission to rove certain store buildings numbered 201, 203 and 207 Fast ~~ain Street to lot immediate adjoining. ~~~~oved by ~Nenner that the .matter be referred to the Realty Committee and City Attorney for re- port. Second by Ingle. Carried. ~4r. York of the Southern Oregon Gas Co. spoke on the storage plant for the new gas which is being introduced in Ashland. ~:~r. Campbell and dir. Kramer of ~~edford made a re~~ort on the heating system at the 'hospital and the m~.tter discussed and finally referred to the realty committee to report back. r dir. Fuller, City Judge spoke on handling; of the cases pending against those who had turned their water back on again after same h~;d been cut off by the water depart- ment for non-payment. Biegel suggested tryiY~g out the plan as used in Eugene of permitting those who were delineuent to work out their back bill provided all current bills were paid. Ingle stated that the kctive Club was planning a 4th of July celebration for ~~shland and that Angus Bowmer of the Pdormal School was considering a Shakespearian play in the Chautauqua Building. Proved b y Ingle that the city council go on record of favoring a 4th of July celebration and. that the ~~ayor as an ex officio member appoint two cit- izens to serve on a central committee to work out the details governing same. Seconded by `~enner. Carried. Carried. , The City Attorney reported on the negotiations concerning° the cle~.ring of the ' title on the Lithia Springs property, stating the{t Pis. and Dirs. Barry Silver hUd an easement to the property and that same parties should be made parties to the suit to quiet title. r~~ovet~ by r~'enner that under the consideration thGt the State Eanking r. department make ?;Zr. and ~xs. Harry Silver a party to the suit, the city grant the department an extension of 120 days in which to clear the title. Seconded by ~-Iansen. s,~ ' Carried. sC'. 4 ,,~~£t~ Biegel spoke of giving free use of city o~med lots to persons on relief, but suggestec that if the lots ~~ere given free of rent, th"t. the water used on same should be paid for by the parties concerned. x~ r~ The city attorney reported on the trip to Portland which he and the Mayor made to attend the State Highway meeting. r The Recorder read a proposed ordinance providing that certain real property near corner of Second and Alain Streets be vacated. ~~oved by Apple~rhite and seconded by V'lenner that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second reading by title only. Carried. ~~oved by Wenner that the ordinance be adopted as read, se~- onded by Applewhite. Roll call was ordered on its adoption, the vote being Ayes 4, Nays 0. Thereupon, the Mayor declared City Ordinance No. 942 adopted. ' Z. J. Knox, Certified Public Accountant, Bedford, Ore,, addressed the council on t}~~ the subject of the annual audit of the city books for 1934, exhibiting the audit of Klamath Falls dust completed and discussing severa 1 phases of the audit. Plans were made to have him return far further discussion when desired by the council. On motion, the council a djourne~ to meet at the call of the ~~ayor. Absent: Councilman .Make. The Ma or announced that the ur?;~ose of the meeti .was to discuss the location y p ~ ~ of the gas tans for the Southern Oregon Gas Co. Hansen reviewed the results of the negotiations to date and a representative of the Oregon Insurance Rating, Bureau spoke reg~:rding the effect an insurance r:;tes, stating th~~t there would be no increase in rates. ~x. York, vice-president of the Southern _~~-,k Oregon Gas Co. spoke on the location, contrasting the two locations under consideration. Hansen stated that the original price wa;s set at X800.00, but thf3t the City would be willing to compromise for X650.00. After some discussion concerning the clearing ' up of the lot, it ~F~as agreed to deduct X25.00 further on the price to allow for part of the expense of cleaning up the lot. ~~loved by Hansen that the Cit~r sell the lot for 1625.00, reserving a 10 foot strip along "B" street to widen the street if and when necessary.
