The council met in regular session Gt 7:30 P. this date. Present: Mayor ti~iley, f3~ Councilmen kpplewhite, Blake, Hansen, Ingle, ~"~'enner•

b~inutes of the previous meetin~~s were read and approved as read.
~gonthly reports of the Library, Light, 6'~ater and Street Departments were read,
accepted and ordered placed on file.
A bill for telegrams from the ~~estern Union for X7.99 was read. I~aoved by ~'°~enner
that the bill be allowed. Seconded by Hansen. Carried.
The annual meeting of the League of Oregon Cities was brought up. Moved b y
Applewhite that a delegation of city officials attend this meeting of the League to
be held at F,ugene on :arch 25th and 26th. Secondea by I?~~nsen. Carried.
Committee Reports;
Water: Biegel reported that ~n'rs. Rowley heel received insurance from her house
which b ru ned down and had bought another house, but was still receiving free wood from the city. Fenner suggested that the City Superintendent interviev~r
her regarding this
report.
Ingle stated that an inquiry had been made regarding the piping of lithia water
to the new super-service Gtution. t~"cued boy Fenner trat the Natter be referred to the
eater Committee for further investigation especially the Ashland Llotel's clai►n for
permanent water rights. Seconded by Applewhite. Carried. ~f
The matter of C. A. White `s request for city ~~~ater service was discusses. ~~oved by Ingle that N'hi~~e either pay for the entire service cost from
our line or else get
water from the Bellview Co-operative Y~ater Association. Seconded by Benner. Carried.
~~oved by Ingle that the City go on record ~1s not favoring the selling of stumpage
on the Ashland Creek ~~dater Shed land to l.~s. Goggins or, other prospective buyers.
Seconded by ~denner. Carried.
Air Port; Applewhite stated. that the Perk Commission ~}~as divided on making a
pro~eet of transfering the pheasant pens to the Air Port land, and some d~.scussion
followed, but no action taken.
S ecia~l.: Applewhite mentioned that a government survey was being made of all
. cities, including inventories of properties, etc. and that some cities hGd tried to
prevent the government from getting these facts. ~.Aoved by Applewhite that the City
Attorney contact Harold Csray, local representative at ~.~edford before the surve„° ~f
r Ashland was made. Seconded by Hansen. Carried. t~~
Riegel stated th~~~t the lar~p contract expired this month and sag€ested same be
referred to the Light Committee. :~~oved b y Ing°le that the matter of awarding contracts for lamps be referred to the Light Committee with pov~er
to ~:ct. Seconded by Hansen.
Carried.
Councilman Gregg enterea and took his seat at this paint.
k~ , An ordinance regarding criminal syndicalism was read, but no action taken.
The City Attorney reported on Airs. Ramsey`s case. ~~3oved by Wenner that the City
Attorney be instructed to complete the transaction ~~rith I'rs. Ramsey and pay for the
~ abstract costing X30.00 for the land involved as required by the ~iOLC. Seconaed by
Blake. Carried.
Certain parts of the minutes of r'eb. 19th concerning bids for printing were ordered
expungea from the records.
A petition regarding vacating of a certain part of Iowa Street was read, but no
~ action taken.
On motion, the council a.cl journeci to meet at the earl of the Mayor.

A letter from the Ashland Radio Club concerning radio interference was read and
discussed. ~~oved b y A~~lee~hste that a committee consisting of the President and Vice-
President of the t~~adio Club and the City Superintendent be appointed to wore out the cause of this interference and take steps to correct same.
Seconded by Blake. Carried.
~r The report of the Dump Ground was read. .bue to the rapid increase in costs of the
dump ground it was thought best to investigate same before payment.
wYk The report of the City Judge t~Us reed and bill for court cost: submitted. r~~oved
by s~enner that the City Attorney investigate the schedule of charges before payment
was authorized. Seconded by Blake. Carried. .,'fti'
Bills amounting to X12721.39 Mere read <+s to total amount only, same having
been oked by the Finance Committee. a~~oved by Blake that the bills be allowed. Sec-
onded by Apple~~~hite. Roll call was ordered by the P:~ayor, the vote being, Ayes, 5,
Nays, 0. Carried.
Committee Reports:
bight: Biegel brought up the ruestion of refund of deposits with interest, also
~~i the necessity for reeuiring deposits from city employees and responsible parties who ag
had changed locations. ~~~oved by ~yrenner that the ordinance concerning deposits be t. revised and raferr•eat o the Light and eater Committee in

~r Biegel reported on trie Rowley case, also on a family by the name of Gridley.
~ ~~,2oved by Wenner that the City Sup't's recommen~stion for granting free water to q~~
~~rs. Rowley to gay 1, 1935 and free water to t~7rs. Gridley for two months April ~

Street; The City Attorney read a letter from the Southern Pncific Co. concerning Y~ ~w~~1
sale of a triangular piece of land, 40 ft. on each side on the corner of ''B" and
Water Streets, but no definite action taken. 'k

Air Port: Blake reported that a renuest had been made to have the runway at the ~ ai~~ort cle4red. It was referred to the Air Port Committee.
Applewhite reported on several S"RA projects ~~~hich vlere discussed. Roved by
°f ' ~~'enner that the project for the Hospital any the Pheasant pens be approved and estimates ~a
far the I~_iountain Avenue bridge and other projects be determined. Seconded and carried.

A letter from the Standard Oil Company relative to their proposed super-service
station, accompanied by plans anc specifications wGs the next order of business.
s After some discussion, it was moved by Ingle and seconded by Blake that the city grant
,R the Standard Oil Co. of California the right to erect a modern service station at the
corner of Bast ?Main and First Streets, providing saia Standard Oil company meat all
requirements of city ordinances as to buildings and the installation of gasoline
tanks .
Fuller spoke on housing ~~lans, suggesting that the City assist. He pointed out
one or t~rro places which ~aould be vrur~i good locations. ~elovea by Ingle that the matter
by referred to the !?ealty Committee and report back. Ceconded by Blake. Carried.
