He also stated that Ashland may be cut off from the Facific Highway if the Gity does not widen the Streets through tov~,tn, by parallel parking or ~ ~ other means. The Orange Avenue vacation hearing was scheduled for next Heating. Ingle spoke on the Pin ~ Bull ordinance, withdrawing his previous objections. Peddler's licenses were also brought up for discussion. F Moved by r`3enner that the application of Vd. F. Su1linEer for indorsement of beer license be recommended for approval. ~eeonded by Ingle. Carried. Moved by Va~enner that the City Attorney revise the ordinance an penalties for delinquent consumers, making same to be 50~. Seconded by Applev~ihite. Carried. It was agreed to continue to pay Frank ~`~arren, regular employee of mater Dept in full for the present, while not working on account of an operation. No motion was made. Present: Mayor ~liley~ Councilmen Applewhite, Blake, Gregg°, Hansen, Ingle, Wenner. Absent: None. r~inutes of the previous meetings ti~Tere read and approved as read. Monthly reorts of the City Judge, Librarian, City Recorder and Electric and tinter Departm~ts were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Applications for the following building permits were presented; No. 16. To remodel dwelling at 487 Scenic Prive at an approximate post of X250.00 by Frank Jordan. No. 17. To remo~_el and rebuild porch at 171 'mast I~'~in Street at an approximate cost of 125.00 by ~V. D. Jackson of the Palace bunch. No. 18. To rebuild used car lot and erec~; a service station at 50 North Main Street at a~~ approximate cost of X2000.00 by H. L. Claycomb. Moved by Ingle that the permits be granted subject to their compliance with building reouirements. Seconded by Blake. Carried. In connection vrith Claycomb's permit, it was necessary to move an electric light pole. Loved by Applewhite that { this matter be referred to the Electric Light Committee with power to act. Seconded by Hansen. Carr~iea. A representative of the Associated Oil Ca. spoke caricerning the leasing or buying r r• of the triangular piece of land near their service station ~~t the ~unetion of the Boulevard and Jest Main Street. loved by Applewhite that the matter be referred to the Realty Committee and the City Attorney. Seconded by Wenner. Carried. Claycomb was present and spoke on decorations for the July 4th celebration and a representative of makQrs of decorations was present and showed samples of them. ~~~oved by ~'r'enner that the Jlectric bight Committee be given po1trer to 2ct in purchasing these decorations and work with the 4th of July Committee. Seconded by Hansen. Carried. A letter from jars. Greer concerning weeds on corner of Granite and Nutley Streets and the condition in rear of stores of Loremus and others was read. Deference was also made to poison oak at corner of j~~aple and North gain and near the Jlizabethian Theatre and the high grass on the lot on North Main where the re-housing project is to be made. These matters were referred to the atreet any. Fire committees. Applewhite reported on the request of~the Texaco Service Station to build a place for a lunch room which was in the fire zone. Moved by l~pplewhite that the matter be referred to the Fire Chief for report to the council. Seconded by ~~enner. Carried. Committee Reports; Water; Riegel asked authorization to change water charges for irrigation and  domestic use following a re-cheer of protested charges. oved by Wenner tnat the cnan,es in water charges be approved. Seconded by Applewhite. Carried.(A net reduction of $25.00 to X30.00). _ _ _ _ _ _ r a~ l` Riegel suggested purchase of equipment for cleaning storrn sewars by 'Water and Street Departments. ~~otion was made and seconded that these departments.be ~ authorized to purchase this equipment. Carried. Fire: A leaky roof was reported in the fire department and jail sections of the City Hall. `dater: Gregg reported on the complaint by Kiss Goheen for being charged ~`1:9~0 3i for use of apartment water service. re also reported on the C. A. White request for city water, disapproving same. ~~oved by G`Jenner that the adverse report of the Committee _ be accepted. Seconded by Ingle. Carried. The City Attorney reported on the Kelt's Alta Avenue Sewer Lien, saying Kelts had turned the matter over to Bengtson, attorney, ~+~edford, who was asking the City to reduce the charge about one-ha 1f. No action was taken. The City Attorney also reported on the Park Board's request to have the Bithia Pipe line in the Park ~y' repaired and the fountains painted. Tr~ere was some discussion, but no action taken. Applewhite mentioned the advisability of having a representative contact the State Highway Department regarding the highway through town. ~s'oved by Applewhite that a representative confer with the Highway Commission regarding street improvements. Seconded b y Hansen. Carried. Re_-alb: Hansen reported that the SERA wanted to use the ~~ission building for canning for relief purposes. Considerable discussion followed, but no action was taken. S~eci~al; An additional X40.00 to X50.00 was reported as necessar; to cor~plete the wiring of the Elizabethian Theatre. After some aiscussion it was moved by Applewhite that the additional X50.00 be authorized for wiring. Seconded by Ingle. Carried. The City Attorney read a proposed ordinance taken from the ~:~edford ordinance on the licensing of Pin and Ball games. l~lo action was taken. Several matters concerning the policy of the City were Drought up by the Recorder upon the suggestion of the auditors for decision by the council. These included the following: Should penalties on ~~:~at,er ape electric delinquencies go into the General 1 fund? Authorization for the transfer from the Electric Light to the Electric Light Depreciation Fund and the amount to be transferred. Approval of the utility budgets for the year 1935. Decide to which fund interest on investments should go. The owning of all general equipment by the General Government. Handling of duplicate collections for assessments. .equiring the Park Board to submit monthly reports to the City Council as required by Charter. Discussion followed, but no action was taken. The recommend- anon of the auditors of securing some additional help in the Recorder's Office in re-classifying revenues and expenditures based upon the ne~~r clGssification of accounts from Jan. 1st to dGte, transferring the assessment records tc the new ledger, etc. was brought up b,y the Recorder. ?.fioved by Ingle that the securing of add~.tional help and applications for same be referrea to tY~e Finance Committee. Seconded by Hansen. Carried. Upon the suggestion of the City Attorney, it was moved by Hansen and seconded by Gregg that the time for the hearing on the Orange Avenue vacation proceeaings be changed and set for, the next regular meeting of the council. Carried. F,eport of the Dump Ground Supt and Street Departments were read. ?~~oved by Ingle that the report of the Dump Ground Suptt be referred to the City Attorney for recommendation as to legal status of charges. Seconded by Apple~n~hite. Carried. The I Street Dept report was accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to X8573.27 were read as to total amount only, same h~;ving been oked by the Finance Committee. ~~loved by A~:~plewhite and seconded by Hansen that the bills be allowed. Carried. Committee Reports:  Fire: Moved by Ingle that in the interest of economy the roof of the City Hall Roll call be re-painter, this summer at a cost of about "70.00. Seconded by Wenner. was ordered, the vote being Ayes 5, Nays 0. Carried.
