I am no stranger to Ashland as I lived here from 2003 to 2012 and returned home to Ashland in 2017. As an interested member of our community, I would like to volunteer my time, skills and talents to assist in achieving the mission of the Conservation Commission: to educate and advocate for the wise use of resources by the City Government and the people of Ashland. During 2003 to 2012 1 was an equality activist for the LGBT community in the Rogue Valley. Upon returning to Ashland ten months ago, and after much thought on where I would direct my energy, I began studying climate change at SOU. With global warming threatening our planet, it's more important than ever to use our resources wisely, and with a focus on a lower carbon footprint. As a result of my excitement in the recent class on Climate Change at OLLI, I am participating in Southern Oregon Climate Action Network's Master Climate Protector Program, a 30-hour, ten week program on Global Warming. And I enrolled in two more OLLI classes: Pesticides and Forest Fires. In addition, an opportunity to enroll in the April Pachamama Alliance "Drawdown" program presented itself. I jumped at the chance as all courses are interrelated. Just last week I learned of the openings on the Commission. Clearly an opportunity to put my knowledge to use. It appears that everything is falling into place. With this powerful information I feel confident that I'll be a strong asset to the Commission. I respectfully request your support in being appointed to the City of Ashland Conservation Commission. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Les Stone 3.
