RE: Vacancy, Planning Commission
Dear City Recorder and Mayor Stromberg:
I am writing to apply for the vacancy position with the Ashland Planning Commission. My
application is included. I am applying to this position because I love our great Ashland
community. I am a resident and home owner of 14 years, and I would like to contribute and
give back to our vibrant, thoughtful, growing community.
As a Planning Commissioner I will be one of a group voice to help guide our city's comprehensive
plan and development standards for the short and long term. I see this position as a service position;
and one that looks to help guide land use planning through careful policy review to create sustainable
development for all parties, from our developers to the low income residents.
I believe my greatest strengths are the soft skills that I bring to a group decision -making process. These
include: a willingness to listen, an attitude of wanting to learn, an open -mind, a respectful approach, and
a desire to approach problem -solving with a thoughtful and efficient review of proposed projects and
current laws. These are the skills I bring regularly to my small business partnership on a daily basis.
I am realistic and experienced in the field of laws, ordinances and protocol. As a botanical consultant
partner of Siskiyou BioSurvey, LLC, I regularly interact with federal and state agencies around NEPA and
state laws related to land use. I have written and contributed to NEPA documentation. I am familiar with
the guiding principles that guide the complex decision -making process of land use and planning for our
communities at different scales.
I hope you will consider my skills and attitudes and conclude that I would be a valuable asset to the
Planning Commission. I would be excited to serve!
