A RESOLUTION ENDORSING BRYCEN WOODLEY
FOR HIS CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL DECA PRESIDENT.
THE CITY OF ASHLAND RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, DECA (Distributive Educational Clubs of America) is a student organization dedicated
to inspiring students to learn marketing, management, and entrepreneurial skills and abilities that will
prepare them to become skilled, employable workers in the fields of marketing and management.
WHEREAS, DECA is non-profit, non-political, self-supporting and totally student-oriented. The
national organization is composed of the total of all state or provincial associations. Student delegates
selected by each state, in turn, elect their national student officers.
WHEREAS, Brycen Woodley, senior student at Ashland High School, is campaigning for the national
DECA presidency which will take place in Orlando, Florida during the National DECA Competition
at the end of April. Brycen is the first person ever selected from Jackson County and the second
person ever to be selected from Oregon to seek the office of President of National DECA. Brycen has
the opportunity to bring the honor of National DECA President to Oregon for the first time in the 50-
year history of the association.
WHEREAS, Brycen Woodley's accomplishments and honors include senior class president, Eagle
Scout, and church leader, volunteer to Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, and Little League umpire, 3.93
GPA, Ashland Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, 1995 top ten in nation for DECA, and selected
student of the year in woodworking, English and marketing classes. Brycen has also held part-time
employment during the past four years.
NOW, therefore, the Mayor and City Council wish to endorse Brycen Woodley's campaign for
National DECA President and urge the citizens of Ashland to join in offering their encouragement
and support.
The foregoing resolution was READ and DULY ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Ashland on the 16th day of April in accordance with Ashland Municipal Code
§2.04.090 duly PASSED and ADOFrED this 16th day of April, 1996.
