I itl /lcrrs Most of the acreage, 60% (720 acres) had no signs of a recent bum. 2) No 40 acre parcels was ever completely destroyed by fire. Some portion always remained unburned although it could be small; in one instance 38 acres burned and only 2 acres were untouched. 3) Where fire did occur, 2/3s ofthe time it was stand destroying. 4) Pine species and madrone were very common in this part ofthe watershed. Management Recommendations 1) Manage for pine species and madrone as primary objectives (due to their competitive disadvantage without fire over the last 50 to 100 years. Large diameter pine and madrone have a good chance of surviving groundfire. Large is defined as greater than 24 inches in diameter. 2) Since pine and madrone have a competitive advantage at lower stand densities, late- successional habitat may not be achievable on all sites. Sites that support either the Douglas-fir or ponderosa pine series are good candidates for pine and madrone management. 3) Manage for late-successional habitat on sites that support the white fir series. -,-.,.~-~ T" _.__ .__ __ _ _.__,_a.___.. .. ___._._...___.___ DO SOT WRITE IS rills SPi\CE '1 '------""--"---'-' -- .. ...- - ---_.~.._---_..._--- ~::"--'_,:..:~:'==':':'::';':==-~~.--::,,,---:~:-.:-;::-:'-~::--:-=~ ~.::::-~=::::..::-::=:-:.:.;..---:: ---"------- ._-_.~----- DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR OEtlERAL lfIPlD OffICE ==~~ of _?,,~p_ok }\o::~,:~-=_~ Sl~e~~:\~~~:==-=,----= Scn!c 1 inch - 100 feel '\- - ,=- I,c ,,/ I - \ t ' ,I 1,\\" i " I " H '" / ", '. !, >:,>' i 1'\ ',~ - " ---' \ " " -=- ~ ~ ~ -= i:; .'\, "'.v , 3 ~( A. -= t 1 \ ~ \....,- -.......
