AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2.28 OF THE
ASHLAND MUNICIPAL CODE WITH RESPECT TO THE
CEMETERY AND UTILITY FUNCTIONS.
THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 2.28.060 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall
be amended to read as follows:
"2.28.060 Cemetery Department -- Created. A Cemetery
Department is hereby created which is under the direction
of the Director of Finance and Administrative Services
and consists of such employees authorized by the position
classification plan or city budget, and such other
employees as the City Administrator may assign to said
department."
SECTION 2. Section 2.28.070 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall be
amende~ to read as follows:
"2.28.070 Cemetery Department -- Functions. The functions
of the Cemetery Department are the sale or other disposi-
tion of places of burial under control of said department~
the maintenance and care of all cemetery grounds, equipment,
mausoleums and structures; the preparation and maintenance
of accurate records of all burials; and the disposition of
human remains in the manner provided by State law."
SECTION 3. Section 2.28.050 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall be
amended by changing the first sentence thereof to read as follows:
"In addition to general city-wide administrative duties
and responsibilities, the City Administrator shall also
be considered the ex officio personnel officer and general
manager of the utility system for the city."
SECTION 4. Section 2.28.080 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall be
amended by changing the words "position ordinance" to "city budget."
SECTION 5. Section 2.28.100 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall be
amended to read as follows:
"2.28.100 Electric Utilities Department -- Functions. The
functions of the Electric Utilities Department are the
construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric
distribution system; the installation of all new lines,
services and meters; the maintenance of the hydro-genera-
tion plant; the preparation and submission of proposed
work programs including estimates of cost; the installa-
tion, maintenance and operation of all electrical equipment
and facilities of the City; and the implementation of
programs for energy conservation required by State or
Federal law, or as approved by the City Council."
SECTION 6. Section 2.28.130 of the Ashland Municipal Code shall
be amended by adding thereto after the word "warehouse" the phrase
"general administration and control of the Cemetery Department."
SECTION 7. Section 2.28.340 of the Ashland Municipal Code is hereby
amended by deleting therefrom the words 'rand power plant".
The foregoing ordinance was first read by title only in accord-
ance with Article X, Section 2(C) of the City Charter on the
