HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-39 Parking Prohibitions RESOLUTION NO. 72- .lL A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND REQUESTING THE INSTALLATION OF PARKING PROHIBITIONS BETWEEN PARK STREET AND TOLMAN CREEK ROAD ON SISKIYOU BLVD. (ORE 99), AND REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DIVISION TO INSTALL APPROPRIATE SIGNS. WHEREAS, Siskiyou Boulevard (ORE 99), between Park Street and Tolman Creek Road, has a paved width of approximately 24 feet for vehicular traffic, with additional paved shoulders for pedestrian travel and emergency stopping; and WHEREAS, large numbers of school children must utilize said paved shoulders as their only means of access to and from Bellview Elementary School, which is located at Siskiyou Boulevard and Tolman Creek Road; and WHEREAS, tenants of adjacent apartment developments are parking on said paved shoulders, causing school children to walk on or near the traffic lane, which is extremely hazardous; and WHEREAS, a petition bearing the names of 453 concerned parents and citizens has been received from the Bellview School PIA, requesting that immediate steps be taken to rectify this situation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the Oregon State Highway Division be requested to post "No Parking" signs on both sides of Siskiyou Boulevard (ORE 99), between Park Street and Tolman Creek Road. SECTION 2. That the City Recorder be directed to forward coples of this resolution to the Oregon State Highway Division, requesting that said signs be installed at the earliest date possible.
