Specialty welding at the Mountain Avenue Substation
The Mountain Avenue's Substation distribution rack expansion project requires specialized buswork
connection welding. The work will require qualified welders experienced in inert-gas metal arc welding
of aluminum. Our Engineering Consulting firm of CVO, Inc. explored firms that were qualified to do
this kind of work. They identified Lanz Industrial Welding, Inc of Vancouver Washington as the only
firm in the Northwest that does this kind of work. We subsequently heard that Pro-Weld in White City
could do this also but they declined to provide a bid to us to do this work.
Lanz provided us with a bid of$17,500 to complete this work. This company is also listed on 'BPA's
Preferred Contractors' list. Since the quality of this welding work is very integral to the successful
completion and also because Lanz Industrial seems to be the only firm qualified and willing to do this
work we are requesting to award this bid as a Sole Source Procurement. We have supplied you with a
copy of Lanz's bid, a letter from CVO, Inc. recommending using Lanz for this work and a copy of the
specifications for the work involved.
We hope to begin the welding stage of this project soon so we appreciate your assistance in facilitating
this award. Please give me a call if you have questions or need further information in this matter.
