The council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this da~e. Present: Mayor Wiley,
COtID.cilmen Applewhite, Blake" Crenda1l" Hansen" Ingle" Koozer. Abs ent: None. .
The minutes of the ,previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Dom Provost, President of the Ashland Base Ball Club" presented a petition signed
by 54 business men asking that the necessary action be taken to acquire a city baseball
field or park for the use of the public schools, Normal School and town team. Following
some die cussion" motion was made by Crandall and seconded by Hsan.e:rm that the natter be
referred to the Realty Committee for investigation and report. Carried.
S. S. Davies spoke in favor of having the c1 ty go back to the original charter
and having oouncilmen el ected from wards instead of at large" but no action was taken.
L. H. Jacks spoke opposing a recent petition to have all businesses licensed.
Wilbur Bushnell spoke in favor of having his photography business licensed.
Wilmer Hilt spoke opposing the licensing of wood haulers.
It was moved by Crandall and seconded by Ingle that a special committee to confer
on licenses for photographers be appointed. Carried. The Mayor then appointed the fol-
lowing committee: Crandall, chairman, Ingle, Keozer and the City Attorney.
Monthly eeports for tb.e Electric, Water and Street Departments, tie Librarian
and Recorder for Janua~J 1938 were read, accepted and ordered placed on file.
The rollowi~g building permits were presented:
No.5. To erect a new office building at 130 East ~in Street at an approxinate
cost of $6000.00 by G. S. Bulter.
No.6. To erect newdwelling on 6th Sixeet near "An at an approxiruate cost of
$lOOO.OO by S. S. Davies.
It was moved ann seconded that tre permits be granted. Carried.
Upon motion by Ingle, seconded by Koozer~ $25000 was authorized for a flume to
carry off the excess water at the Mountain View Cemetery" I.O.O.F. Section. Carried.
Upon motion by Koozer, seconded by Hansen" authorization to transfer deposits
amounting to $48.15 to delinquent accounts ~G approved. Carried.
A proposed ordinance authBrizing the issuance of a Bancr.oft Bond for the payment
of tIe construction of Sewer District No. 39 was read. It was moved~by Ingle and second-
ed by Blake that th e rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to the second
reading by title only. Carried. Following the second reading it was moved by Apple-
white and seconded by Koozer that the ordinance be adopted as read. Roll call was order-
ed on its adoption" the vote being" Ayes: Blake, Ingle" Crandall, H~~sen, Koozer,
Appl~hite. Nays: None. Thereupon the Mayor declared City Ordin~lce No. 976 adopted.
Upon motion by Crandall, seconded by Hans en, the construction or Sewer Distric~
No. 40 was authorized to proceed. Carried.
On motion the council adjo'urned to meet at the call of the Me.yor.
