The cou..'lcil met in regular session a:t 7:30 P. :M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley_
Councilmen Apple'White, Blake, Crandall, Hansen, Ingle, Koozer. Absent: None.
The minutes 01' the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
H. L. Claycomb representing the 4th 01' July committee was present and addressed
the council concerning the closing of Winburn Way during the week the carn! val was
operating there in order to use the property tor the shaw without being disturbed by
traffic. Following some discussion_ it was moved by Blake and seconded by Hansen that
the matter of location of 'tihe oarnival be referred to the street Committee with power
to .,act. Carried.
Application for tl~ following building permit was presented:
10. 15. To remodel dwelling a~ 79 High street at an approximate cost of $300.00
by Kate H. Wells. It was moved bJr Koozer and seconded by Crandall that the permit be
granted subject to building regulations. Carried.
Application fer liquor license, Paokage S+Are, nCl~ss Bft from Joe Samuelson.
at 347 East Main Street was presented. It was moved by Ingle and seoonded by Koozer
that tl~ application be approved. Carried
Monthly reports of the Library. City Judge 8..."1d City Dump Ground were read.
accepted and ordered placed on tile.
A letter annou..~cin6 the State Fire Chief's Convention a't Pendleton was r....d.
The Report of the Board of Viewers appointed to determine aP~ assess the special
benefits accruing to the several pieces 8..."1d parcels of land affeoted by the construct-
ion of a sewer in Sewer Distriot No. 41 was read and upon motion. made and seconded was
accepted.
Bills amounting t& $14,763.09 were read as to total amount only, same having been
oked by the various departments, committees a..."'ld finance committ.ee. It V4ls moved by
Applewhite end seconded by Blake that tn, bill be allowed. Roll call was ordered on
the motion, tl~ vote being, Ayes:B1ak:e. Ingle, Crandall, HaJlSen, Koozer, Applewhite.
Nays: None. Carried.
Committee Reports:
Street: The Mayor brought up the subject of vacatin~ the,,'park rov; on "c" Street
in front of the Naze.rene Church. The matter was referred to the Street Com.mi ttee.
Realty: The leasing of the septic tank proper~. located on Helman Street and con-
sisting of' a piece 160 by 200 feet in area for a period of five years for $50.00 per
year was discussed f.l.nd upon moti~n. b~r Ingle. seoonded by HanSen. the City A"btorney was
instruoted to draw up a contract for the lease. Carried.
The fishing in Ashland Creek was brought up by the Ci-ty Att.orney and following
some discussion, it was moved by Ingle that tr., C1 1;-.{ Attorney ask the Game Commission
to ~lose the streaml from the lower reservoir up to its source. Seconded and oarried.
The lease or sale of the Pompadour Wdneral 'Springspproperty was discussed and in
order to arrive at a deo#ision as to.;;what waw. best to do with the property should en
offer of either sale or lease be raeeived, it was moved by Crandall and seconded by
AppllJwhi te that a oomrni ttee of five interested citizens be appointed to work with the
council on ~he matter. Ca.rried.
The sale ot the Mission Building was discussed.
The proping up of the X-Ray room at the Hospital was au'thorized to be done by the
City Superintendent upon motion by Ingle. seconded by Crandall and carried.
As Mr. WOOd, leasee of the Community Hospital was unable to seoure a surety bond
it was deoided to have him secure a chattle mortga.ge oovering his property at the
hospital up to $1_000 or else pay $150.00 as two months rent in advence as security in
lieu 01' a sure~J bond. Motion was made by Ingle end seconded ~J Blake. Carried.
Upon_ motion by Koozer, tr.&.e City Attormy wa. instructed to write the Town of Talent
conoerning the sale of the old fire truok. Seoonded and carried.

A proposed ordinanoe amending City Ordinance No. 970 by removing exceptions
relating to dates when fireworks and lirecraJlkers may lawfully be sold was read. It
was moved by Koozer and seconded by App1 ewhi te that the rules be suspended and the
ordinance be passed to the second reading by title only. Carried. Following "the second
reading by ti tl@, it was moved by Ingle andseconded by Blake thE'~t the ordinance be adopt;.
ed as read. Roll cs} 1 was or.dered on the motion, the vote being, Ayes; Blake, Ingle,
Crandall, Hansen" Koozer, }4pplewhi te. Nays: None. Thereupon the Ms,yor declared Ci t"J
Ordinance No. 987 adopted.
