The Council met in regular session at 1a30 P. M. this date. Present. Mayor Wiley,
Copncilmen Applewhite, Blake, Crandall, Hansen, Ingle. Absent a Councilmar. Koozer.
The minutes of the previou.s meeting were read and approved as read.
Monthly reports for September for the Electric, Water end street Departments and
the City Recorder were read" aocepted and ordered placed on file.
The following application for a building permit was presented:
No. 32. To erect new dwelling at 233 Granite Stree1; at an approxima. te eost of
tl, 500.00 b~r J. R. Cle.ry. It was moved by Crandall and seconded by Hans en that the per-
mit be granted. Carried.
A letter from the Billings Insurance Agenoy conoerning the old Mattern Property on
Hargf.'di:n.e street was re8.d in which it was suggested that the house would be boarded upo
Fire Chief Baughman al so made his report ooncerning the building and following some dis-
Cussion, it was moved by Ingle and seconded by Applewhite that the City Attorney and
Fire Chief advise Mr. Billings concerning the city's attitude in the natter.
The matter of J. L. Kimbrough's purchasing two lots on Third. Street and moving a
oe.bin onto it for a house was brought up and Biegel, City Sup't made his repprl on same,
recommending that it not be approved, as it would establish a h\d precedent. Upon motion
by Hansen, s,econded by Applewhite, the matter was referred to the Realty Committee and
the City Attorney for report. Carried.
Committee ReporiE:
Eleotric I A resOlution accepting the contract for service between the Cal.-Or@gon
Power Co. ani the City of Ashland was read. It was moved by Blake andseconded by Hansen
that the rules be suspended and the resolution pa.ssed to the second reading by title
only. Carried. Following the second reading, it was moved by Applewhite and seoonded
by Crandall that the resolution be adopted as rea.d. Roll oall was ordered on its adopt.-
ion, the vote be lng, Ayes: Blake, Ingle, Crandall, Hansen. Applewhite. Nays: None.
Thereupon the Mayor declared the resolution adopted.
upon motion duly made andseconded, the transfer of depos1ts to delinquent aocounts
totalling $44.25 was approved.
Upon motion by Ingle, seoonded by Hans en, the calling for bids for IIa terial for
the street and Wayer Department projects was authorized. Carried.
Upob motion by Crandall" seconded by Hansen the purchase of a dump truck for the

Street. The construction of a bridge on Nevada Street was oonsidered. contributions
from Iiitet=este d parties toVt"'8.rds the expense having been offered. but no formal action
taken.
The City Attorney reported onnhis correspondence with t he owner of the property
formerly a church on 5th and East Main Streets. The owner offering to oorrect the con-
dition of the basement remaining on the property.
The numbering of streets in the City was brought up by the Fire Chief who stated
that Mountain Avenue was particularly badly numbered. Following d.iscussion. it 'W9.S moved
by Ingle andseconded by Hansen ths. t the nwnbering of streets be retlrred to the Street
Committee and Fire Chief. Carried.
Realty: Cemeterr-: Due to overexpenditure of the 8emetery budget" the Sexton was
~.. asked to refer future budget expenditures to the Cemetery Committee upon motion by
Crandall, seeonded by Applew@ite and carried.
Special Conurd ttees: The Special Li this. Springs Committee appointed by the Mayor waa
<ii$oussed. It was brought out that the oommittee was oonsidering the branohing...out and
considering all kinds of mineral springs in the vicinity andthe addition of E. C. Hurd
to the connnittee. On motion by Crandell, the City Attorney was onstruoted to write I

Upon motion by Ingle, seconded by Hansen, bills against the hospital were to be
referred to the City Sup't for oko Carried.
The hour having arrived for the hearing of objections against the ~oning ordinance
whioh had been recommended by the Planning Co~ssion, objections were called for, but
there were no objections presented.
Hire I Hansen reported progress on considering the proposal for a new fire hallo
He suggested that an opinion of an expert as to the desirability of the Camps Bldg for
a fire hall might be advisable.
The painting of the old fire truok the same color as the new qne at an approximate
cost of $55.00 was upon motion by Applewhite, seconded by Ble.ke a~ carried, a1>proved.
On motion. the council adjourned to meet at 7.30 P. M. October 28th.
