Absent. Counoilman Crandall. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. )(Qnthl~ reports of the Electrio, Street, and Water Departments aDd City Recorder for t he month of Kay were read, aocepted and ordered placed on tile. The paving of High Stree;t and Granite Street _8 disoussed. A. 1.. Coggins was preeet sent and presented the Granite Street property owners viewpoint. FollGWing further cliscussion, it was moved by layler and seoonded by Delsman that the matter be referred to the Street Committee with-power to act. Carried. A letter from the Paaifio Tel & ~el Co.+ooncerning notification of the di8contin~ uation of the polioe alarm oontrol system was read, effective July 1, 1939 and discuss- ion followed relating to establishing a city operated alarm system. Biegel estiaated the 008t of a fire alarm oode system at 1900.00 to $1,000.00. Upon motion 'by Applewhite seoonded by Carson" the Fire Co~ttee. Fire Chief and Ch~ef of Police were instruoted to investigate both alar.m systems. Carried. Carsom. reported on the mixed drink establishment proposed by Mr, Hook. He stated that the eommittee opposed the plan. Mr. Hook also spoke stating he had made tentative arrange:g:aents to use a back room of 'the L thia Hotel. Discussion Collowed during which some of the points were oleued up and there _. less opposition to the plan, but -the council decided to take no ac-tion ei'ther way in the matter. Protest. having been made by farmers in -the vicinity or the new oi-ty dump ground operated by Wm. Ross & Sons oonoerning the dumping of oans em-oute to the dump ground was reported. Discassion tollowed which developed that the reports were apparently exaggerated. C_mIDi ttee Report!.a Finance. Tayler reported that the Finance Committee had, engaged .Alfred W. Mundt a. P. Carson suggested that the Band be represented on the oouncil, stating that he woUld be vdlling to serve on the oommittee, but declined to aot as chairman. Di... .ussion followed. Water. The City Attorney read his report on -the question of reduoing the water rates to the Bellview Co-operative Wa.ter Asstn.
