HomeMy WebLinkAbout1939-1205 REG MIN Dec. 5, 1939 No. 30 The Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Counoilmen Applewhite, Carson, Crandall, Delsman, Koozer, Tayler. Absent: None The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. The monthly reports of the Librarian and City Judge were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to $12,296.41 were read as to total amount only, same having been oked by the various departments, committees and finance committee and upon motion by Carson, seconded by Crandall and following a unanimous roll call were ~r ordered paid. Upon motion by Applewhite, seconded by Crandall, the request of Charles Van- DeWalker to have his Peddlers license waived until Jan, 1, 1910 was granted. Carried. A letter from G. M. Roberts, attorney, Medford, concerning the M~s.Li~htowler property was read. This letter requested delay in oondemnation of that propermy. Upon motion by Koozer, seconded by Delsman, condemnation of the properties ex- oept the Lightowler property was authorized to proceed. This property located at Sherman and East Main Streets was given time in which to be disposed of by the heirs. Bids on new ca.rs for t he Electric a.nd Water Departments were opened, with the following firms bidding: Claycomb Motor Co.,~Selby MOtor Co., and Leever Motor Co. _~l bids were opened and tabulated and after deducting trade-in Value of the old cars, the Leever Motor Co. was found be tl~ low bidder with the following net bids. For Water Department coupe piok-up, $400000. For the Electric Department pick-up# $245.00 It was then moved by Koozer and seoonded by Tayler that the bid of the Leever Motor Company b~ accepted# and following a unanimous roll call, -the bid was so awarded. Bonds fo~he Cemetery Trust Fund was authorized upon motion by Tayler# seconded by Carson and carried. Electrio: The purchase of a transformer at an approximate cost of $550.00 was authoriz;d~.upon motion by Applewhite, seconded by Koozer and u..YJ.animously carried. Realty: The purchase of additional land along the Sout1).ern Pacific right-of-way for $150.00 for use as burial spaces was approved upon motio~ by Crandall. Mrs. Sutherland, owner of~one of the o~her oondemnaej properties on Guthrie Street was present and asked that her property remamn until she had a reasobable opportunity to dispose of it. This was granted. The Police Department needing a new typewriter with a wide carriage, upon motion, the City Superintendent was authori zed to gets bids with power to act. Motion was made by layler, seconded and carried. It was moved by tijWls'~ ~~and seconded by Koozer that the applications be approvedo The following applications for building permits were received: No. 45: To build addition to garage at 303 Palm Avenye at an approximate oost of $300000 by Ethel o. Beagleo Noo 46: To ereot garage at 254 North Main Street at en approximate cost of $150.0u by Ralph Koozer. It was moved, seoonded end carried that the permits be granted. The Ci~ Attorney read the proposed bicycle ordinance and following discussion it was moved by Koozer that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed 1;ot11e second reading by title only.
