The minutes of the previous meet~ were read and approved as read.

forthe month of April, 1940 were read, aocepted end ordered placed on tile~
Upon motion by Tayler. seconded by Kooser, the insuranoe policy oovertigliability
at the Community Hospital, O. L. & f submitt~d by I. C. Erwin"'for $16.13 was a.pproved
for payment. Carried. IV '
J. D. Mars and Bert Freeman were present and spoke in favor of their petition for
oiling Nw:bley Street, -* .
The proposal tor the leasing or the Lithia Springs property was read by the City
Attorney. Frank J. Burnham and his a"orney Harry C. Shyrman were present and a lengthy
disoussion followed concerning various stipulations in the proposal .hiohttne.lly were
agreed upon. bpt which required certain ohanges i.ri. the original proposal as submitted.
A petition requesting that Iowa Street be pai'ed with oil paveluent from SiStiyou
Boulevard to Sherman Street was read and it was moved by Tayler and seoonded by 100 zer
that notioe of intention to pave be published. Carried.
Committee Reportsl
Watei: Biegel made his report on his attendance with Hosler. Water Suptt to the
Amari.an ater Works Convention at Portland. _ .
Real~:Biegel reported on the reqmirements at the Commu~ity Hospital neoessary to
comply with the State law.
The Garbage add was rei'erred to the Realty Commi t-hee.
The oanvassing of the votes on the Golf Course purchase eleotion held on May 17th
was the next order of business. The canvas revealed a total of 1478 votes cast with
762 voting "Yes" ani 716 voting "No". It was then moved by Tayler and .seoonded by
Cra.ndall that the COtmt be certified as correot and the Mayor's proclamation officially
deolaring the purchase approva:1 was read. It was lOOved by Koozer and seconded by
Tayler that the Ci-ty Attorney secure data to clear up the legal title or the Golf Course
property. Carried. .
The purchase of t150.00 worth of wood by the City Sup't was approved upon motion
by Tayler, seoonded by Koozer a:od following a unanimous roll call was carried.

Upon motion by Tayler, seconded by Koozer an invoioe for MoQuillan's Municipal
Law for $89.30 was approved. Carried. .
An ordinance levying special bebefit assessments in Sewer Distriot No. 43 was
read and it was moved by I'randall that the rules be suspended aDfJ the ordinanoe be
passed to the second reading by ti t1~ only. Seoonded by Koozer. arried. Following
the seoond reading, it was moved by ayler and seoonded by Koozer that the ordinanoe .
be adopted as read and following a unanimous roll call the Mayor declared City
Ordinanoe .. No. 1001 adopted.
An or'dinanoe levying special benefit assessments in Sewer Distriot No. 44 was
read and it.,we.s moved by tayler ani seoonded by Koozer that the rules be suspended
and the ordinanoe passed to the seoond reading by title only. Carried. Following the
second reading" it was moved by Crandall and seconded by Tayler that the ordinanoe be
adopted as read and following a unanimous roll oall. the Mayor declared Ci~J Ordinanoe
No. 1002 adopted.
An ordinance against obsoene literature in the City ot Ashland 'Which had been
read the first time at the May 7th meeting was read forfirial adoption arid it was
moved by Dels:man and seconded by Crandall that the ordiilanoe be adopted -as read. - 8.nd
following a unanimous roll call. the Mayor declared City Ordinance No. 1003 adopted.
