HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-0806 REG MIN Aug. 6, 1940 No. 25 "'-......' The Council met in regular session at 7,30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley# Councilmen Applewhite.. Carson, Delsman.. Tayler. Absent, Councilmen Crandall, Koozer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Monthly reports of the Librarian and City Judge were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to $12.547.25 were read as to total amount only, same having been oked by the various departments, committees and finance committee and were ordered paid. The following applications for building permits were presented. No. 25: To erect new dwelling at 365 Avery street at an approximate cost of $2.000.00 by J. Derler Woodvo rth. No. 26: To erect new dwelling at Oregon 8Jrtr-Leonard Streets at an approximate cost of $3,000.00 by W. L. Steward. No. 27: To erect new dwelling and garage near Beaver residence on Beach Street at an approxin.l8.te cost of $4,000.00 by Ivar C. Erwin. Moved by Tayler and seconded by Delsman that the pennits be granted. Carried. Mr. C. H. Jessel asked tr~t the street near his property be oiled and street light be installed. Following discussion, it was moved by Delsman that Idaho Street oiling be referred to the City Supft with power to act. Seconded and carried. It was moved by Applewhite that a street light near the Jessel property be install- ed on Idaho Street. Seconded and carried. No objectors were present to protest against the vacation of t he portion of Emerick Street for which a hearing had been set at this hour. A petition requesting that Allison Street be~een UBdon and Gresham Streets be paved with oil and that a curb and gutter also be constructed was read. It was moved by Delsman and seconded by Carson that the intention to pave and construct ourb and gutter be published. Carried. A petition asking that Beach Street be. given an oil treatment to lay the dust was read and it was moved by Carson and seconded by Tayler that Beach Street be oiled. Carried. D. M. Lowe was present and spoke regarding the Moun:te.ixl' Avenue bridge and the necessity of having it put in. if they were to have a rural mail route in that section. Neal Allen, State Commander of the American Legion made a presentation speech and presented the City of Ashland with the Amerioan nag and standard. Mayor Wiley in behalf' of the City accepted the flag with a fine speech of acceptance. It was moved by Tayler and seconded by Applewhite that a resolution of appreciation by the Council be given to the Legion for this gift. Carried. Committee Reports: Waterl Hosler reported that on August 6th there were 663,'" acre feet of water as compared with 441..... on the same date in 1939. Police. The semi-annual report of the Police Departmeht; Jan-June was read. The unsanitary oondition of a house on Scenic Drive at the head of Manzanita Street :: 1i:~;~~~ ~r~;a~~e~~h~~~\~~~~een ~ B. Carler Upon motion by Tatler.. seconded by Applewhite, thefixing of a plaoe for a looker room for the band uniforms was approved. Carl'ied. Upon motion by Delsman, seconded by Applewhite, a resolution to the State Highway Commission concerning the bad corner at the Plaza was approved. Carried. An ordinance on the vacation of a portion of Emerick Street was read and it was moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to the seoond reading by title only. Carried. Following the seoond reading, it was moved that "tl:eordinance be adopted as read, Motion was made by Delsman and seconded 1hu Tayler. Upon motion by Applewhite, seoonded by Carson.. budget requests by departments for the year 1941 were callee for September 1, 1940.
