HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-0820 REG MIN Aug. 20, 1940 No. 26 The Council met in regular session at 7s30 P. M. this date. Presents Mayor Wiley, Counoi1men Applewhite, Carson, Crandall.. Delsman. Absent: Councilmen Koozer.. (T~yler came later during the session) The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Mr. Norby, City Suptt of Schools explained the proposed plan of the athletic field and the desirability of having further vaoation of portions of Blaine and Emerick street and upon motion by Applewhite, seconded by Crandall, the publishing of intention to :JHI;H vacate said portions of these streets was authorized. Carried. Monthly reports of 'the Electric, We. ter and Street Departments and City Recorder were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. The following applications for building permits were presenteds No. 28: To make addition to dwelling at 823 Boulevard at an approxlli1.ate cost of $300 by B. F. Craig. No. 29: To erect double cabin near 278 Idaho Street at an approximate cost of $200.00 by C. H. Jessel. No. 30: To erect new dwelling at 145 Central Avenue at an approximate cost of $2500.00 by Mrs. Nellie G. Simpson. No. 31: To remodel dwelling at Fox Street at an approxina te cost of .400.00 by Albert Calhotm. It was moved by Carson and seconded by Crandall that the permits be granted. Carried. Upon motion by Crandall.. seoonded by Carson, the Recorder was instructed to notify the County Clerk that the City was not interested in the properties which the COtmty had reoeived boni fide otters to purchase. Carried. Payment of further rent for his hanger at the air port was authorized to be sus- pended in the case of Floyd Diokey, whQ had paid his rent to date but had not used the hanger tor the past two years. The transfer of $78.25 in deposits to delinquent acoounts, theadjustment of active aocounts in the alOOunt of #10,85 and the dropping of uncollect..le aooounts for the years 1935 and 1936 totalling $996.86 was approved upon motion by Applewhite, seconded by Carson and carried. Committee Reports: Electric. Rat. changes were mentioned and discussion was scheduled for t he near future. Street: The hedge at the corner of Scenio Drive and Wimer S~reets as a cause of accidents was oonsidered and it WaS moved Vy Appl@white and seconded by Tayler that Slow Signs be plaoed on all four corners of the streets. Carried. The widening of Second and Third Streets near East ~ain Street was discussed and upon motion by l'ayler seconded by Applewhite" the matter was referred to the Street Committee with power to act. Carried. . Hand rails on the hospital steps were ordered in. The need of about a half mile of pipe line at the golf oourse was discussed. Cost esti ated at $1.000.00. No objectors to the curb and gutter and pavement of Allison Street being present, the City Attorney read a proposed resolution authorizing ~ts construction. It was moved by Delsman and seoonded by Crandall that the rules be suspended and the resolution be passed to the second reading by title only. Carried. Following the second reading, it W8.l was moved by Applewhite and seconded by Delsman that the rei.iolution be adopted as read, and following a unanimous roll call, the Mayor declared the re solution adopted.
