Councilmen Applewhitel Crandall, Dau~herty, Koozer, Tayler, Woodell. Absent: None The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved asxread. Montluy reports of the Recorder, Librarian and the Electric, Street and Water Deparbnents were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. A letter from the Ashland Chamber of Co~~erce conc0rning an emergency appropria- tion was read and discussed. The following applica~ions for building permits were presented: No. 71: To erect planing mill at corner of California and East Main Streets at an approximate cost of $5..000.00 by Arthur L. Coggins. No. 72. To remodel and paint Baptist Church at 241 Hargadine Street at an approximate cost of $750.00 by o. F. Carson, Sect'y, trustees. No. 73: To rem~odel residence at 383 Avery Street at an approximate cost of $4UO.00 bJT J 0 D. Woodworth. No. 74: To erect garage and wood shed at 91 Nursery at an approximate cost of $185000 by Kroeger & Lahr. Also a special permit to erect temporary fraln6 structure for evangelistic mee~ ings near Associated Oil Station, East Main Street and BouleVard by H. A. Peckham. It was moved by Koozer that the permits be gramted except Coggins Mill which wa,s referred baok for more detailed plans. Seconded by Applewhite. Carried. Committee Reports: Ohamber of Corr~erce: Koozer reported that the Chamber of Commerce wanted $100.00 fro~ their allowance for the purpose of publishing a city directory of organizations. a bill board and o the r rea tures and following some discussion, it was moved by Cran- dall and seconded by Koozer that the $100.00 be allowed fmr ~his purpose and after a unanimous roll call, was carried. Applewhi te intr6duced a proposal to invite Battery "B" baok to Ashland for a homec~~ng for about three days in October at City Expense. About 120 men would be included. Fire: Biegel reported that a bid of $750.00 for the foundation of the fire station-had been received from Fred Van Curler. Upon motion by Koozer. seconded by Woodell. it was decided to contact Van Curler to put in the foundation and provide a bond. Carried. Sewer: A sewer for Emerick Avenue near "'E" Street was discussed, It was moved by Crandall and seconded by Tayler that notice of intention to construct sewer be published. Carried. Sep"ti. 17, 1941 No. 27 street: The appoinbnent of viewers for the various streets where oil pavement and ourb and gutters had recently been construoted was made by the Mayor as follows: F. H. WALKER, W. C. MITCHELL, G. W. DUNN. On lUo"tiion by Tayler. seconded by Daugherty, the appointments were confirmed. Carried. A petition requesting that a pprtion of FBen street between Mountain Avenue and Elkader street be vaca'ted was presented and following; some discussion it was moved by Koozer that the petition be denied. Seconded by Woodell. Carried Dry Ice: On motion by Applewhite, seconded by Woodell, the payment of $50.00 to Henry de Lotty for expenses, with a letter of appreciation was approved following a gnaniliOus roll ca1lo Real~J: The R. D. Reynolds lease of the Air Port property was discussed. Gemeter,y. The payment of M. E. Skinner, cemetery employee, an increase from $89.25 to $105.00 per month for the last three months of this year. the increase to be paid out of the emergency appropriation was approved upon motion by Tayler, seconded by Woodell and carried. Flurry ~ll. The new lease with the Flurry Mill, with P. R. Hardy as trustee, and amended "tio read 2,500,000 feet per year instead of 5,000..000 was approved upon motion by Applewhite. seconded by Tayler and carried.
