HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-1007 REG MIN Oc"tiober 7, 1941 No. 29 The Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley. Councilmen Applewhite, Crandall, Daugherty, Koozer. Tayler, Woodell. Absent: None. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. The monthly report of "tihe City Judge and Librarian were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills amounting "tio $12,768.45 were read as to total amount only, s&ne having been oked by the various departments. oommittees and finance oommittee and ufX>n motion by Koozer, seoonded by Crandall, were ordered paid. The following applications for building permits were presented: No. 75: To erect dwelling at 523 North Main Street at an approxima"tie cost of $600.00 by Mrs. Eliza Hicks. No. 76: To remodel dwelling at 469 Siskiyou Boulevard at an approximate cost of $1,000.00 by Mrs. L. E. Crosby No. 77: To remodel dwelling at 333 North Main Street at an approximate cost of $500000 by E. A. Woods, M. D. No. 78: To erect new dwelling and garage just above 433 Morton Street at an approxima"tie cost of $800.00 by FrarlcConner No. 79: To erect new dwelling and garage on Wightman Street at an approximate cost of $4..600.00 for John Nos1er by H. V. Nidever. No. 80: To erect new dwelling and garage on Fern Street a"ti an approximate cost of $4,200.00 by K. P. Nims. No. 81: To remodel dwelling at 317 North Main S"tireet at an approximate cost of $450.00 by Jacob Weitzel. No. 82: To erect portable tabernacle act East Main Street and Siskiyou Boulevard a"ti an appeoxima te cost of $500 .00 By H. A. Peckham. A petition signed by thirteen residents living in the vicinity of the proposed new Coggin's Mill asking that the Council refuse to permit the erection of this mill (Union Oil Co. property near California StreU).-nLll;~S~~ Mld lIrs. Sherman who headed the pe:bition spoke very emphaticalit-- <<tttnritA . 1'6!lowing considerable disoussion in which -the City took the stand that they had no gDQund to refuse to issue the permit it it complied with building regulations, it was moved by Applewhite and seconded by Tayler that the permit be granted with the prov1'sion that the oonstruction be under the observation of the City Superintendent. Carried. Mr. Giffin of the Southern Oregon :Miner asked to be permitted to publish the city budget, but same was denied due to the fact that the Ashland tidings had a contract for all legal advertising and also the extra expense of publishing this budget which aocording to the new law required more than twioe the space as former budgets. The Tidings contract in the light of "tihe new law was discussed. Dr. H. A. Woods as president of the Ashland Golf Club reported that the Club need- ed about $1300 for a tractor and gang mower. Following discussion, since the city was unable to loan money, it was moved by Koozer and seconded by Daugherty that the City Superintendent secure bids on this equipment, F..--l.....lfl In.. _a !! Committee Reports: Waters Tayler reported the bad taste of the water, but Hosler stated it Would soon be "removed. - The petition for vacating Monroe St. be**een Prospect and Oregon Streets by A. C. Joy and H. G. Enders was denied as a bad preceden"ti upon motion by Koozer, seconded by Woodell and carried. A letter from Mrs. C. D. Crouch, Granite St. concerning light and irrigation bill 'W8. S referred to City Sup' t for adjustment if justified. A formal invitation to Ba"titery "B" to attend a homeoommng with decorations being exhibited was approved upon motion by Tayler, seconded by Woodell and carried.(Oct 24-2~ The Viewers Report covering streets recently paved was approved upon motion by Crandall. seconded by Tafler and carried.
