HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-1021 REG MIN Oct. 21, 1941 No. 30 The Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley, Councilmen Applewhite, Crandall, Daugherty, Koozer.. Tayler, Woodell. Absent: None The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Monthly reports of the Elec-tric, Str eet and Water Departments and City Recorder were read, accepted and ordered placed on file. The following applications for building permits were presentedl No. 83: To reshingle and repair church at l75 North Main Street at an approximate cost of $200.00 by First Methodist Church. No. 84: Tm repair dwelling at 142 Churoh Street at an approximate cost of $300000 by G. H. Billings. No. 65: To erect new dwelling on Sherman Street at an approximate cost of $3200.00 by E. O. Smith for Perry Cahill. Noo 86: To remodel garage at 100 East Main S"tireet at an approximate cost of $3500.00 by Lloyd Selby. No. 87: To erect dwelling and garage on Palm Avenue at an approximate cost of $2750.00 by Kroeger & Lahr for Dr. Walter Redford. No. 38: To remodel dwelling at 985 & 987 Sis~iyou Boulevard at an approjd.mate cost of $400.00 for Mark He.maker by J. D. Woodwor'th. No. 89: To erect dwelling and garage at corner of Morton & Holly Streets at an approximate cibst of $2450.00 by J. D. Woodworth. No. 90: To erect new dwelling below 231 Gresham Street at an approxi..ma"tie cost of $2,000.00 by J. _~. Mahlsteh. No. 9ID: To repair after fire, dwelling at 52 Roca Street at an approxiiliate cost of $20QQOO by J. A. Mason. No. 91: To erect dwelling and garage on Meade Street at an approximate cost of $3500.00 for Wilbur BashBe11ji by Kroeger & Lahr. It was moved by Daugherty and seconded by Koozer that the permits be granted. Carried. An application for a drive-in groce"tieria on Siskiyou BG~levard at the present site of the Alpha House# 842 Blvd.# was discussed, but action, deferred pending a mee"ti- ing of the Planning Commission. . Bids on 8, 10, and 12 inch cement pipe were rscaived and upon motion by Crandall seconded by Daugherty, the purcl~se of $1,000 worth of pipe was approved following a ~nimous roll call. . Committee Reports: Realty: Hospital: The expenditure mf $700000 for a laboratory for the hospital, was upon motion by Applewhite. seconded by Koozer, referred back to the Committee for report. Air Port: The R. D. Reynolds air port property lease was discussed and it was moved b~l Tayler that the large house and land be rented at $12.50 per month and the small house ahd about 1 acre of land be rented for $6.00 per month payable in advance and effective October 1st. Seconded and carried. H. L. Claycomb reported on the damage done by sparks and soot from the Ashland Laundry Company's smoke stack to his cars and business and following discussion, it was moved by Koozer and seconded by Woodell that the matter be referred to the Fire Chief and City Sup't for negotiation and report. Carried. On motion by Tayler, seconded by Daugherty, the application of Ben Nivis&n for free liihts and water was granted. Carried. On motion by Woodell# seoonded by Daugherty and following a unanimous roll call. the appropriation of $100000 from the Chamber of Commerce advertising account and $75.00 from the Emergency for t he transportation and enterta.inment of Battery "Bft was approved. The Emerick Street Sewer hearing hour having arrived and there being no objectors present, the resolution authorizing its conttruction was adopted wi~~fue emergency clause and approved by the Mayor. There being insuffic~ent signers for th~ oonstruction of sewer on Roca Street as requested by Mr. Leever. the petition was denied.
