Absent: Councilman Merrill. The minutes of the preTiou8 meetings were read and approv~ as read. Monthly reports of the Librarian and City Judge were read. accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills 8JIlotmting to t15. 204. 36 were read as to total amount only, same having been oked by the various departments, commi 'btees and finance committee and upon motion by Redford, seoonded by Selby, were ordered paid. H. R. Morris stated that &. carnival wanted to show in Ashlam on July 4th and a.ked about the city licElIlse ~~~ Mr. Morris also asked to a small piece of property adjacent to the old Ashland Fruit and Produce Assln building which he had bought. The matter was referred to the Street Committee for investigation. A letter from the Chief of Police in which he stated that he was finding it imposs- ible to hold polioemen on acoount of the salaries and asked that something additional be appropriated was disoussed. It was finally decided that the best way was to add .2,000.00 to the emergency fund in the new budget whioh had just been passed instead of changing specific salaries. Motion was made by Redford. seconded by Putm.an and carried. The City Attorney to notify the budget committee of 'the action 'taken by the cOlmoil and get their approval. The City Attorney ste. 'bed that the Rogue Valley Transit Company wan"d to get a franchise to operate locally in the city. The matter was referred to the City Attorney to draw up the proposed franchise. The Batter of the sale of government equipment was discussed and the City Sup't authorized to make necessary trips for inspeotion and purchase of equipment a8 required, uplbJl motion by Selby, seconded by Redford am carried. The following applioations for building permits 'Were presented: No. 25: To build addition to dwelling at 200 Gresham Street at an approximate cost of .200.00 by Mrs. C. F. Hall. No. 26: To erect dwelling and horse stable on Elkader Street at an approximate eost of $6.000.00 by C. E. Clark. No. 27s To remodel dwelling at 1020 Henry Street at an approximate eost of $400.00 by H. V. N~dever. No. 28: To remodel store at 145 East Main Street at an approximate cost of .500.00 by H. S. Harrison. No. 29s To erect garage at 108-2nd Street at an approximat~ cost of $250.00 by Beecher Darurord. e It was JjlOved, seconded and oarried that the permits be granted.
