Bills amounting to $12~118.45 were ordered paid. A petition asking the City to oonstruct a sewer east of Roco Street across private property was read. The proposed sewer was to serve three properties on the east side of Roco Street near Fern S"treet. Miss Kennedy spoke for the property owners. The City has recently con- structed a swwer on Roco Street. The petitioners felt that it would be cheaper for them to install a new sewer to Ashland Street. about 675 feet, than connect to the present sewer. The question was referred to Biegel for study. Jones Bids -were opened on a ! yard shovel. Owing to the complications of the bids~ Biegel asked to study the bids and report back to the coundil with recommendations at a special meeting. Biegel reported on the need for a substation on the west side of town. owing to the heavy load, the change of time. and the indication of additional load. The present substation is overloaded. It was moved by Redford. seconded by Daugherty, that the substation be ordered. Carried. Dewey Van Curler was present and spoke at length on garaage collection. He gave his reasons why the garbage cans should be placed on the curb. His main reason was lack of help. Mayor Wiley explained the city's position. Mr. Van Curler than asked if the city would con- sider buying his business. Mr. Charles Stricklen. state Engineer, and Mr. Sam Baldock, State Highway Engineer, will be in Ashland in the near future to discuss the water and highway situation. The City Attorney was instructed to dra.w up an ordinance changing the names of Willow. Oberlin. Stanley. and Stock Streets to Hersey Street. These streets are all a part of one continuous street. Sewers were ordered in on Bridge Street. from Lee to Iowa Street; on Liberty, from south of Ashland to top of hill, approxirrl6.tely 650 feet; and in alley back of Nor'th N.18.in. and down Oberlin Street. It was recommended by Biegel that the office hours at the Recorder's office be changed from 8:00 A. M. to 5:00 P. M. to 9:00 A. M. to 5:00 P. M. This will allow the office force to balance their books before the office opens for collection in the morning_ There being no further business the council adjourned to a cookie and cider treat prepared by the Mayor.
