Dunn appea.red for the signers and spoke against the use of a residential zone for business purposes. mi* City Attorney atated tha.t the present zoning ordinance should be changed to ol&rify the meaning as to what constituted a profession or occupation ordinarily oarried on in a private home. The unoffivial expression of the members of the Council on the matter of opening up all of North Main Street and SiskijtOU Boulevard. showed that they were nearly unanimous in favor the use of this area for business purposes. H. Lo Claycomb, who was present ate.ted that he favored broadening the business area instead of lengthening it. He also stated that he was definitely a~ainst the funeral home on Granit.e Street. A letter from Will M. Dodge against the present zoning ordinance as it affects business establisrmlents on Siskivou Boulevard was read. Monthl~r report of the City Judge for May was read,aocepted and ordered placed on file. This report showed a total of fines & costs of $1,625.50. The largest month to date. Building pen~ts numbered from 85 to 87 inolusjdve were approved unanimously. Total of permits $13.500.00. Committee Reports: Fire: Merrill read a recon~endation asking that the Fire Department budget be increas ad to~vide an increase from theee to six men ir. addition to the Chief and that the platoon SysteUl of working shifts be ins~,lled. Following discussion, it was moved by Merrill and seoonded by R6ford that ~woi1dditional men be added to the Fire Departrr.ent and budgetttor. Carried. lc'ii\ Cemet.er~: Raising of the price of lots from ,25000 to $35.00 per spaoe and increas- ing the veme ery's share from 20 to 40 per cent was agreed upon. Follovdng discussion, it was moved by Merrill and 8eoonded by Fischborn that a atraight 10% salary increase be budget for. Carried unanimously. A resolution adopting the State of Oregon fmrmula as the basis for allowing prior service credit under the Publio Employes Retirement System was read by the Ci t:y Attorneyo It was moved by Daugherty that the resolution be passed to the second reading by title only, the rules being suspended. Seconded and carried. The matter of fixing a driveway be~reen the Pioneer Bloc5 and the Neil building or Chautauqua drive was referred to the City Sup't and Realty Conmittee. The City Attorney reported that Mr. Boitano, operator of the City Garbage franchise service wanted to use the City Recorder's office space for eollection servioe at a rent- al fee as previousl~' agreed upon.
