The Council met in regular session 'at 7:30 P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley~
Councilmen Daugherty, Fischborn, Merrill, Nailer, Weitzel. Absent: Councilman Redthrd.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved a s read.
Monthly reports of the City Judge and City Recorder were read, accepted and ordered
plaoed on tile.
The next order of business was the hearing on changing certain areas trom resident-
ial to business. Mrs. Dews living at 470 Siskiyou Boulevard protested the proposed
changing ot the area on Siskiyou Boulew.rd near the Public Library from residential to
business. Mr. Foster living in Bellview spoke in favor of ohanging Normal Avenue frOIJi
residential to business. As the original petitions tor and against these proposed
changes were not available, Mr. Biegel, City Sup't was sent af:ber them. During his
absence, other ci~ business 'Was taken up.
Mr. Rath of' RatHs Motel requested that neon signs be plaoed as close as 18 teet
trom the Highway, if desired instead mf t:te present 40 feet. He stated that the State
HighwairbCommission had no objection. It was moved by Fischborn and seconded by Weitzel
that the City Attorney prepare an ordinanoe to provide tor a distance of only l8.teet.
Carried.
Upon the return of tre City Sup' t with the petitions, the me. tter was resumed. The
petitions were all read and acted uPFaas follows:
The North Main Street and Glen. ue area having been recommended for business by tll
the Planning Commission, 'it was maved y Fischborn and sec))nded by Daugherty that this
area be changed to business and followimg a unanimous roll call" was carried.
The Siskiyou Boulevard area which had been recommended by the Planning Commission
for business 'WaS not changed. It was moved ~ Weitzel and s sconded by Fischborn that this
area be left as a residential zone and following a unanimous roll call, the motion was
carried 0
The Normal Avenue area which had been recommended tor residential by the Planning
Commission was changed to business upon motion by Daugherty, seconded by Nisler and
carried after a unanimous roll oall.
The recommendation of t lB Planning Commission that the center parking strip in the
Boulevard be removed, was voted down by Motion by Weitzel, seconded by Mwrrill ani oarried,
A representative ot the Evergreen Bus Ltne asked that they be permitted to operate
within the city limits with fares remaining as they are, until such a time as a city bus
line is again re-established. It was moved by Daugherty andseoonded by Wei"tzel that
permission be }granted. Carried.
Bills amounting to 141,568.62 were read as to total amount only, same having been
oked by the vazious departments, committees and finance COIl1Tfd ttee and upon motion by
Fischborn, seconded by Daugherty were ordered paid.
Hr. Reed of Reed & Wright, Realtors asked concerning using the property in :bear
of 823 Siskiyou Boule....d for a home laundry and when informed that this would be spot
zoning, asked why the radiator works and mat1;.- works on Morse Avenue were permit'ted.
Thereupon, it was moved by Fischborn and seconded by Merrill that the welding shop on
Morse Avenue be called to the Ittention ot t1ae Police. and 'the radiator works be referred
to the Planning Commission for report.
The question of smoke and cinders was again brought up and it was reported 'that the
Oak: Street Tank & Steel Co. stated that the oause of soot was when both sawdust and slabs
were burned together and that with a new burner that they could make by-hich the saw
dust and slabs were put in separately.. the soot could be reduoed by 95%. These burners
would cost about $2.000.00.
Building permits numbered from. 97 to 98 inolusive were approved upon motion by
Daugherty, seconded by Fischbor.n and carried. Total of permits $3.000.00.
The application of the Plaza Cafe tor an endorsement to the Liquor Control Commission
was approved upon motion by Weitzel, secionded by Kerrill and oarriedo

Notice o~ intention to construct curbs, gutters and pavement on Elkader Street
was authorized.
It was reported that the Rotary Club was building a home for girls on upper Liberty
Street and wanted permission to out 30 trees on the Canner place for use in the building.
'ermisnon was granted.
The City Superintendent asked authority to purchase a carload of poles costing
approximately $2,500.00 and it was moved by Fischborn and seconded by Nosler that the
purchase on bids be granted. Carried.
The City Attorney reported further on Mrs. Heath's property~ which she desired to
deed to the City for park purposes.
Weitzel reported that Mrs. Alioe Peil had no light at the top of 'the stairs near
the Park Garage~ which she had asked for. It was moved by Weitzel and seconded by Fisch-
bor.n that an additional light be put up and a deed to 'the City secured. Carried.
Upon motion by Daugherty ~ seoonded by Weitzel, tre City .&uperintendent and City
Attorney were instruoted to investigate the 5 foot walk on Henry Street. Carried.
Dick Joy stated that he had T. I. D. water~ but would rather use City water instead,
on his property south of town. The matter was referred to the Water Commdttee for re-
port. .
