A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND, OREGON IN SUPPORT
OF ADEQUATE STATE SCHOOL FUNDING
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND, OREGON, RESOLVES:
Whereas the Oregon Legislature is responsible for balancing the diverse needs of State-funded
programs and prioritizing allocations from the General Fund to address the health and safety
needs of disadvantaged citizens; and,
Whereas the Oregon Legislature' s current proposal for funding of K-12 education is inadequate
to address basic needs and to address basic needs and to implement Oregon' s education reform
goals; and,
Whereas the education of our children must be one of Oregon's highest priorities; and,
Whereas Ashland citizens consistently demonstrate their recognition that by investing in the
education of our children we invest in the integrity of our community;
We, the Ashland City Council, do hereby urge Oregon Legislators to approve a budget that will
provide at least $4.95 billion for the State's K-12 Education system; and
To actively pursue the adoption of long-term, stable funding mechanisms to provide for an
equitable, diverse, and comprehensive K-12 Education System in Oregon.
Further, we urge our own citizens, if at all possible, to dedicate their family' s "Kickback" to
education if the Oregon Legislature fails to retain it as a source of funding for education.
