Sept. 50. 1941
No. 28
The Council met in adjourned session at 7.50.P. M. this date. Present: Mayor Wiley.
Counoilmen Applewhite, Crandall. Daugherty, 'fayler, Woodell. Absent. Councilman Koozer.
The citizen's Budget Committee were present also. as follows: George W. Dunn, Melvin
Kaegi, C. M. Li"twiller, Arthur S. Taylor, Gerala H. Wenner and W. D. Whittle.
G. H. Wenner ,'{as elected chairman and. A. S. Taylor, secretary.
The oomplete budget which had been gone over by the Council at a previous meeting
was distributed and the cheirman asked if there were any questions or oomments on any
item in the pndgeBed budget for the six months period Jan. I-June 30. 1942. D. W.
Whittle stated that he had always felt that.the pay of the Mayor was entirely too low
for the great amount of time required. It was pointed out that the salary of the Mayor
and. Council was set by Charter and could not be altered by the Budget Comrrdttee. However,
the suggestion of increase in salary for both the Mayor and Council was made a matter of
official record for further study.
Since the proposed budget had provided a straight 10 per cent increase in salaries
to all city departments except the Library and Park, which were under the oomtrol of
separate boards ether than the City Council, it was pro~sed that the budget committee
go on record as favoring increases for both of these departments and the increase to be
published in tile budget figures if the chairman of' the boards concerned approved this
action.
The budget having been completed and the mmoUllt set at approximately $22,000.00
~ subject to changes for the Library and Park Funds and other minor adjustments, it was
L moved by A. B. Taylor and seconded by G. W. Dunn that the budget be adopted. Carried.
(Final actual adjusted budget was $22,199.00 for the period Jan. I-June 50, 1942)
On motion, the Council adjourned to meet at the call of the Mayor.
