this position?
I possess forty years' administrative experience in public higher education, which
included significant planning, leadership and teamwork roles through numerous
committees, task forces, work groups, etc. Also, while employed at SOU (22 years), I
had frequent communications with the media, presented information to the Ashland City

regarding the Transportation element of the City's Comprehensive Plan.
Do you feel it would be advantageous for you to have further training in this field, such

Why are you applying for this position?
I reside in a wildfIre-prone neighborhood in NW Ashland that is subject to the provisions
of the Oregon Forestland-Urban Interface Fire Protection Act. I wish to be more
effective in enlisting the interest and commitment of my neighbors (in the city and
adjacent county lands) in taking measures to reduce fire risks. I believe membership on

has enriched my family's lives for many years. I consider fIre prevention and a
dependable water supply to be two of Ashland's critical issues.

Please use the space below to summarize any additional qualifications you have for this
position
When I first heard about the national Firewise Communities program some months ago
and perused its web site, I felt its program ideal for Ashland in general and my own
neighborhood in particular. With respect to the latter, I concluded that the program could
provide the context for promoting more attention to fuel reduction in my neighborhood.
I have served in a voluntary capacity through my church, Ashland Rotary Club, Boy
Scouts of America, Ashland Community Hospital Foundation Board, Ashland Rotary
Foundation Board, and providing entertainment to shut-ins through the local district of
the Oregon Old-Time Fiddlers Association.
