Dear Senator Bates and Representative Buckley:
On behalf of the Ashland City Council, I am writing to express our support of the continuation of
the State of Oregon Senior Citizens' Tax Deferral Program.
As you know, this program has been in place since 1963 and assists senior citizens to stay in
their homes with money saved from deferral of real property taxes. This is a revenue neutral
program and accomplishes a positive social purpose benefitting seniors.
The program guarantees the payment of an eligible senior's property taxes to the County and
City. Deferred property taxes plus 6% interest are re-paid by the estate of the deceased senior.
The Ashland City Council requests the State Legislature to advance the funds necessary to
continue this program in its current state.
